So I have two ideas relating to villains learning Superman’s identity. There is a John Byrne story wherein a machine determines Clark Kent is Superman but Luthor dismisses this because he doesn’t think someone that powerful would pretend to be someone so weak.

I’ve only heard about the second one but there is supposedly a story where it’s revealed Superman’s villains know he is Clark Kent and then point out the flaws of attacking him in his civilian identity. He would fight crime as Superman 24 hours a day, He’s no more invincible while he’s sleeping. Killing him would bring all the world’s superheroes down on you. Most super villains try to commit crimes while he is at work in the hopes he will be too busy to show up.

Might I suggest another chapter or two where Lois finally figures it out, or Luthor does as well but decides to keep pretending not to know because it isn't relevant to his plans (for now), or Clark reveals or at least muses to himself that he's always known what Perry was doing and is very grateful for it.

lmao the idea that they are all holding their tongues about this secret because Perry would lose his shit is hilarious. It doesn't hurt that Clark Kent is wonderful.

Not sure if you're aware, but there's a fan theory that all the villains know most (if not all) of the heroes' secret IDs, but no one says anything about it because they're quite happy for their opponents to do something that isn't "thwarting my plans" for 8 hours a day.

I like Perry being smart enough to have figured out Clark's secret. I remember a Lois & Clark story I read once where all the Planet's janitors, guards, repairmen, etc. were in on the secret (unbeknowst to Clark) and picked up after him, hiding the evidence when he was in too much of a hurry to be careful.

This was good.

and then because Lex bugged Superman's workplace this happens:

"There are people, people who are supposed to be competent journalists, who haven't figured it out? WHAT IS WRONG WITH HUMANITY!"

This is a nice little story. Take that Luthor! You couldn't figure it out despite someone outright telling you.

This make so much more sense than the 'magic glasses who somehow hide his secret identity' ! I even wonder if it is not canon...
