Part 3 with the Soil stands out in my memory. I actually come back to this story again and again to re-read that particular piece. The rest of it is wonderful as well, but *that* section is what I return to again and again. I'm going to actually go listen to the soundtrack from Schindler's List because of this piece.

For a high achiever, it's remarkable how narrow minded and outright vindictive this Uhura can be, and her habit of jumping to the worst possible conclusion about someone simply because he is always himself must lead her to so many erroneous judgements. Anyone who can blackball another without even a clue as to his skills doesn't sound like someone whose professional competency could be trusted.
Loved your Kirk character though, as he showed a level of integrity not usually written for him.

I love this! I really really love this! You did an amazing job of integrating so many parts of Jim's life and personality! And Nyota was angry and indignant for all the right reasons, and was totally wonderful!

What a great fic ! I loved the fact that your depiction of the beginning of their friendship stayed true to their personnalities and managed to acknowledge both Nyota's intelligence and professionalism and Jim's morals and talents, which are not always obvious at first glance, hidden as they are under bravado. I do, however, think that Nyota, being a future Communication Officer, and a good one at that, would sometimes have been more perceptive of Kirk's feelings than she appeared to be in your story. Still, I was very fond of the evolution that their relationship showed in these six moments.

Just as you say in your author's note, stories about the interactions between Jim and Nyota are always fun because both are such strong personalities. So...any chance we get to see them combine forces to take down that nasty old reporter? *bats eyelashes innocently*

I think you nailed Jim Kirk in this story.

Jim’s ‘hard partying, barfly’ reputation is very overdone on in fan fiction. Pike was a VERY straight arrow and took Jim under his wing at the academy. I very much doubt Pike would have put up with the party every night behavior from Jim without kicking his butt to Mars and back. And add in when was Jim supposed to find the time for all this partying and sleeping around? He was doing four years in three. Doesn’t matter how smart you are. You still need to do the time commitment and actually DO the work.

And I always enjoyed the rather adversarial relationship between Jim and Uhura. For me it came off more as sibling bickering than anything else.

This was wonderfully delicious! I loved it - and read it over again right away! You absolutely nailed Jim and Nyota. And I got a little misty-eyed over the Jim/Gaila dance scene.
I sure hope you have more stories to come! Thanks for a great read, a really great read.
