Oh, I love this look into House's head. Everything here just sounds so right. And yes, I've always thought that his 'I wish I hadn't' had not been a new thought to him, not at all. House is a rational man, and therefore he would've considered this option as something that might've left him better off. But he isn't purely rational, so there's this part of himself that wouldn't allow him to let go.
This is a great exploration into House's mind, thank you!
