Reviews for It's The Apocalypse, Sweetheart
Guest chapter 29 . 2/7
This is maybe my all time favourite of your fics. It’s definitely the one I go back to re-read the most! It has such genuine character arcs and I don’t think I’ve ever been so attached to characters in an AU as I am with this fic (honestly I think at one point I forgot that these aren’t the original characters!) I really would read prequels and sequels about these characters even if they’re doing nothing hahaha. On top of that though, this fic has maybe the best intertwining of canon into an AU that I’ve ever read. The details are incredible!

I just have such an attachment to this fic and I got so wholeheartedly invested even during what is probably almost my tenth time reading it hahaha. It genuinely has the same place in my heart that some of my favourite books do and I like to think it’s one that I’ll never stop coming back to read.
Guest chapter 15 . 1/23
This chapter is one of my all time favourite chapters of any fic ever. Their fight is just so realistic it makes me laugh every time. It’s the perfect combination of fluff and angst :)

I don’t understand how you can write a perfect story
Guest chapter 29 . 12/31/2017
I just read this fic over again...been several months since the first time. I commented before how much I loved it, but I loved it all over again now! Maybe even more than the first time...because I love the characters even more since I've been reading your fics for over a year now. You make these characters feel like old friends that I get to go on adventures with. Was so much fun. Thanks for all the great stories.

Read it all in one go, love this story!
Guest chapter 29 . 2/14/2017
I kept putting off reading a zombie story...because...well...it was a zombie story for crying out loud. However, Elanna is hands down the best Hayffie writer EVER, and I must read it all...so I gave it try. IT WAS AWESOME! Action, romance, fun, funny, sad, had the whole gang of kids (i love that), great Hayffie, and Zombies! :) It was like a non-stop thrill ride...and I do mean "ride"!
roughdiamond5 chapter 29 . 1/21/2017
God, but I love found families - and, I mean, the dynamic between Haymitch and Effie is inescapably amazing. I admit I saw Finnick's and Prim's deaths coming - kudos for making them so close to how the books went, I was hoping for it but I didn't see it coming - but that doesn't make their deaths any easier for me to swallow. I read this story for days and days, just soaking in the different scenarios of danger and found moments of peace. I owe you so much for making me ship hayffie so fervently, and for providing such a fascinating dynamic in a universe that honestly scares me. I'm so glad I got to read this fic.
what-if-joana chapter 29 . 6/27/2016
I hardly ever read AUs because I can't stand them. Usually I think it's weird to read a story set in a complete world/setting with kind of familiar characters. It doesn't make sense to me. But since my Dad's on a serious Walking Dead binge-watch and I'm kind of forced to watch it too. I got surprisingly hooked on that so I thought I give this story a try. Because it seemed like a good combination: my fascination for a world with Zombies and Hayffie.
And well ... Is is a perfect combination. I like this story. I read it twice now within in a couple of days. Yes, this is good, like really good. It amazes me how different all the characters are but at the same are like in the Hunger Games. Katniss the archery-champion, Effie the model and Haymitch had worked for the CIA? Brilliant. It amazes me how much of all the details from the original you kept in.
I especially enjoyed Effie in this, she's badass, handling guns and driving cars like a pro. She's rocking the apocalypse in style. She and Haymitch make a good team. There's so many hayffie-feels in there and the sometimes desperate setting makes it even more intense.
Great work. I'm really surprised how much I enjoyed it. I will definitely re-read it a third time sometime soon.

Awwwwwww. He came back.
"No he came home."
Sorry I just had to finish that reference from Disney's Tarzan.
I freaking love it. I was a little bit skeptical because of the zombie theme but I'm in love with this story. Even though I might get night terrors from reading this. Love it
Rafaperez chapter 29 . 11/15/2015

chrisi2503 chapter 29 . 8/17/2015
I already finished reading this story a few days ago but I didn’t want to leave a rushed review and now I finally have the time to write a proper review. I want to apologize that I didn’t leave one for every single chapter because that’s what you deserve to be honest. But the thing is, I sometimes simply couldn’t stop reading to leave a review. I sometimes had to read three or four chapters in a row because I needed to know what would happen next and I knew I only had to hit the “next” button. I kind of like the experience of waiting for an update a week like with Invictus and Sail at the moment but since I joined the fandom rather late, this story had already been written so I could binge read it. And this experience was even greater.

Believe me when I say that I loved everything about it! The story and your writing amazed me so much, I’m truly impressed. The way you portrayed and developed their relationship was fantastic and I feel like it isn’t even enough to call it fantastic. I am not exaggerating here. The entire universe you created was impressive and also how you stick to the original plot in a way with Peeta losing his leg, Annie’s pregnancy and Finnick and Prim getting killed and Katniss killing Coin for example and all these details. I loved that you included these characters; I had a lot of fun with Johanna for example and the scenes between her and Effie were hilarious most of the time, especially when they went to the pharmacy.

But I adored that it started with only Haymitch and Effie in a car. It was so simple and perfect. They basically saved each other. I loved their first sex, I loved how they were worried about each other, how she thought she had lost him, and how he thought she was pregnant, how they made up and made out, how he couldn’t say “I love you” but how he said a lot of other beautiful things which were so Haymitch. I loved his jealousy and her being Effie Trinket even in a zombie apocalypse, how they bickered and bantered and how they went on a date in a deserted house. I loved how you dealt with his alcohol addiction and how he stayed sober with her help. I could add so many more things and details at this point; I could basically go on forever. Every chapter was a pleasure to read and you made many of my evenings with them. There’s one thing I want to point out before I send you this review: the end. I loved it but it also made me incredibly sad. I can’t really explain why, probably because the story was over at this point and also because I had to leave them behind without knowing if they would make it or turn into zombies at one point or another. I always have my problems with open endings but it was the right decision for this story, I guess. The last sentence was everything! And also how it reminded us of the beginning. I'm a big fan of those arcs. Every decision you took for this story was right in my opinion. There hasn’t been one thing I didn’t like about it. That’s impressive, too.

Karine, I think you have every reason to be damn proud of this story. It was a masterpiece and it’s a shame that I can’t have it as a book on my shelf. The day will come when I’ll start reading this story again and I’m pretty sure I’ll love it even more then. In my opinion, this is one of the best Hayffie stories out there and I loved every second you gave us with them, even the heartbreaking ones. I don’t know what to say more. I feel like there are no words to do justice to this story. A big THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, that’s it.
