Another fantastic chapter, as is the rest of your work in this very-much-in-need-of-fixing universe.

My one issue with this chapter is what Gwen brought for the villagers of Ealdor to use. The best medieval armament for untrained people to use in battle is a spear and shield. Spears are cheap and easy to make, fast to become combat effective with, and have the greatest reach of all one-handed weapons. The shield is a natural pair for a spear, particularly for someone who doesn't have reliable armor, like a peasant. Swords are much harder to learn to use effectively, much more expensive and difficult to smith, and not that effective as a battlefield weapon anyway, given their poor performance against armor. After the Roman Empire fell, swords are pretty much only used as a sidearm or 'dueling' weapon, where you are in a 1 on 1 combat situation.
