Reviews for Trials
helenxxx chapter 20 . 5/24
genuinely a lovely story, and such a wonderful insight into the development and relationships of the characters. I most enjoyed the insight into Frigga, that would later lead to her over protectiveness towards Baldor and the subsequent tragedy of course, but the foreshadowing there was delicate and fitting xxx
Alatariel5079 chapter 21 . 1/14/2019
I know this is only a fan fiction but to me this entire scenario seems entirely plausible for Loki. It’s gives interesting insight into how he may view right and wrong and how those early views shaped him to the point where he falls from the bifrost, Bravo!
Alatariel5079 chapter 12 . 1/13/2019
Really enjoying this story! So well written... I really enjoy the Loki and Frigga interactions
Rival Argentica chapter 20 . 6/23/2018
I LOVE IT! Especially, I can’t help but keep gushing over how the title ‘Trials’ has double meanings...what do you call that in English again? Ah, anyways. I’m currently in a phase where I appreciate attorneys and am seriously considering law, so this fic was a delight to read because it resonates with my current plans about the future, and seeing Loki take up the stage as his own defence attorney is certainly an image I can cling onto as motivation. Hehe. But that’s not the only reason I loved this! You took on his growing up stage well, I loved how you kept Odin and Frigga out of this and made Loki face his problem more or less alone (there’s still Thor, of course, but Thor wasn’t completely on Loki’s side and Loki must’ve felt so alone), and you captured Assgard’s assholery system of patriarchy against magic and trickery because of its association with femininity. Well done, well done. You can’t imagine how many times I fangirl’d on my bed while reading screaming, “Ahh, Loki, this is why you’re Asgard’s most valuable relic! You can bring them this sort of change, can’t you see?! Your being Jotun doesn’t matter, you shouldn’t have to change to conform, you’re already special on your own, etc., etc...” Sigh. Asgardian society isn’t perfect and it must’ve been hard growing up in Loki’s shoes and being the butt of this entire joke about him being ‘one of them’ when he’s actually not, but this is just one of the reasons why I love him so much.

And you interpreted it perfectly.
lordvaatithewindmage chapter 20 . 3/21/2018
Wow! Amazing story! It's sad that present day Loki can't have times like these, and can't even remember all of these memories properly in beneath, or at all in memory casket.
joycelyn.o.ting chapter 20 . 3/10/2018
"You have much to learn about the fine art of splitting hairs, my son." I bet Odin regretted his teaching at several points in his life thereafter. xD

I love this story because its focus is so unique, our favourite brothers so young and different from what they are now. c: But I have to say it's really bittersweet to read these scenes with Balder in it knowing that the sweet little boy was going to die later. Anyway, I know this is a rather late review but it was great being able to binge the last 3 chapters! xD Thank you for sharing this wonderful work with us :)
Basil Allegri chapter 6 . 2/19/2018
We WISH that Loki had chosen option four and moved to Midgard, haha...
Emily83 chapter 20 . 1/20/2018
This was wonderful! I smiled, laughed, and cried a bit.
They're so carefree and innocent- knowing what's ahead of them almost made me want to shout out a warning. But I'll dwell on this story's blithe ending. I'm so happy for Loki! (He overthinks, something I can relate to, so it's a relief to see him finally relax a bit, and just take in his day.)
Earthsong1 chapter 20 . 1/20/2018
Great chapter end the story. I could see a sequel with the adventure to Nidavellir to have those knives made in addition to what trouble Thor could get them in during this adventure.
Ori chapter 20 . 1/19/2018
It’s so weird this is such a happy ending and yet it’s making me so sad because I know what will become of Loki and Thor’s relationship later in their lives with respect to Beneath and of course the movies. They had such a nice relationship back then but once lost...

And now you must get started on Eighteen so we can all be horrified at what happened to Loki and understand why he is sooo messed up!
Renne Michaels chapter 20 . 1/18/2018
Very fine story, I particularly liked the whole 'no this can't be happening to me' aspect. :D
foolondahill17 chapter 18 . 1/3/2018
Whoa...this. I've been trying to organize my thoughts about this story for most of the evening. I have two things to say that were not entirely motivated by the main thrust of the plot, but related nonetheless and for some reason dominating the majority of my attention.

1. This story pulled on my heartstrings in an unusual and unexpected way. I literally had to pause several times while reading it, take a breather, and return - not because it was particularly intense - on the contrary, in parts it was wonderfully light-hearted - and I think that is part of what made this such a hard story for me to get through. There was struggle here for Loki, but also victory, and - most pointedly - Thor determinedly by his side. It wasn't exactly a sense of impending doom I was feeling, but I couldn't help but be preoccupied by the idea that none of this lasts, all that remains in Loki and Thor from the films is just glimpses of this happier time. I was nostalgic for this history I have just been introduced to, hungry for more of it, but so heartbroken to realize where it all eventually ends up.

2. Baldur. I just can't get this kid out of my head. I read your profile before reading this story, so now I'm half-intrigued and half-horrified by the events that must take place within Eighteen. From the moment Baldur cheered Loki on in the stadium, to his picky eating, and to his unabashed support of big-brother Loki's petition (don't get me started on Loki as a big-brother. Be still my heart.) I ached for this little one who never grows old enough to take his own trials. And now I'm remembering scanning the second (first) chapter of Beneath and catching sight of a Baldur reference there, too. I can't imagine what must have happened...and what lasting effect it would have on Loki. His love for Baldur is so evident here and I just...uhg. This connects to my point number one; the realization of all that will be lost is just so heavy. Out of curiosity - recognizing the last update concerning Eighteen was in '15 and I might have a long while to wait - any idea when a first chapter of that might be put up?

Also, general comment: the trials are another fantastic addition to your richly detailed Asgard, made even more impressive by the exploration of Asgardian law. I was genuinely beaming while I read your "Law and Order: Asgard." A literal trial was certainly not where I thought this story was going, but I am delighted that it did so. It was something I did not know I was missing in the fandom, and it was great to see Loki get a lesson in both logic and humility. Can't wait to read the next two chapters! I'm happy Loki is learning things and sad because I know someday he will forget some of them, but overall loving your take on the character.
MacMhuirich chapter 18 . 12/24/2017
Poor Loki. Have to admit Odin did the right thing, being the stern (yet loving) father seeing to it that both his sons fix the damage done to the library and think about their actions. And Frigga kind of mitigating the scolding. Nice parenting for the two lads (not "babies", Frigga, puh-leeeeaaase! ;D).
And to think that, with Ragnarök, Odin's/Vituri's/Asgard's precious library will be destroyed by Hela.
Earthsong1 chapter 18 . 12/23/2017
I loved the chapter. I look forward to more.
joycelyn.o.ting chapter 17 . 12/19/2017
What a humbling experience, I actually didn't think about just why Loki managed to beat Tyr, it was a great lesson, for Loki and I both. Now, if it was Thor denied victory, do you think he would accept and apologise so graciously? Hmmm... xD

Aaaanyway, love this chapter for all the maturity, it was really different and refreshing. Whoop! Can't wait for the last few chapters! :))
