Reviews for Something to Talk About
Noctus Fury chapter 1 . 7/4/2019
Dragon fighting is complicated — period! No matter how much you salt it. lol XD

I actually really enjoyed this one-shot a lot, not because I thought that it would be bad (nothing could be further from the truth) but because this is definitely something that I wished was canon and that happened in the first film, rather than the awkward stuttering that we got instead. This is far more plausible and believable, in my opinion, and something that I dearly wished had happened. Well done!

I can also see them having this conversation if Hiccup killed the Night Fury and tried his best to become a dragon killer, albeit a none-too-good one. But then again, if he had killed the Night Fury, he wouldn't have been able to best the other teens and Astrid would've become the chosen one to kill the Monstrous Nightmare. Or, he might've run across another dragon and decided not to kill it and became friends with that dragon. Or something alone those lines. I doubt Fate would just roll over and let Hiccup get away with not having to fulfill his destiny as the smart ostracized outcast that befriends a dragon and kills the Queen and brings peace between the Vikings and Dragons. lol XD

Again, this is an awesome story! Keep it up! Thanks for writing this and for sharing this with us!

This really shattered me. "An intelligent being with feelings and hopes and wishes. Trapped, it had wanted nothing more than the chance to die with dignity, and even that had been taken away from it." That is HEARTBREAKING. And "to face another dragon that could not escape." Just... Your Hiccup's view of the situation, so different from Stoick's, the heart-deep connection he has with dragons, th... Oh, my. I... Just. Wow. I... "I'm going to put an end to this, he decided. I have to try." This makes it all the more poignant. You show how your Hiccup's attempt to talk to his father backfires and underscores how different they are at this stage. I... So much love.

Yeah, infinite possibilities to how the httyd universe could have turned out.

But some things just can't be changed.

Wow. This adds a whole different dimension to the most awkward conversation in movie history. Very Nice.
Cottonmouth25 chapter 1 . 6/24/2014
This... was really interesting. It really opened my eyes to all sorts of possibilities that could have happened in the movie, but didn't. It makes me wonder just how far a few words can go, or how many words it takes to alter a story completely...

Aside from the wordiness, which comes with nature of this type of story, I appreciate this take of a warrior's heart-to-heart talk. I'd love to see Stoick's point of view of this conversation; he must have been so happy as a father to finally get the chance to talk with his son the way he has been wanting to for years.

This brings me to another nugget in this short story. "Just another trophy." Hiccup is right, dragons aren't just another trophy, just as a son isn't a trophy to a father. A son or any child for that matter is a parent's legacy as much as the child is a unique person who must come into his or her own. And then you just had to end it with Hiccup doing just so.

Loved it.

That was an interesting talk, and you're good at portraying the characters as always.
QuillOwl chapter 1 . 5/24/2014
Ohh, that was an interesting twist to that scene. I liked the story with Stoick and the Deadly Nadder, and how they seemed to understand each other just before it died. It seemed like, if Stoick was fighting the Nadder where nobody else could have found them, things might have gone completely different...Anyway, great short story!

Hmm. That's interesting.
