I loved this story! It shows a redemption arc and I like how you shifted and twisted some of the real tv scenes in order to make a realistic and happy ending. Bravo, writer! Right now, in season two, I wish you were the producers. ;-)

You just blew my mind with this observation: “His weakness was not caring enough to resist.” THIS, this is his weakness. Brilliant!

Honestly, this fiction is confusing me in more ways than one. I don’t know if that is your intention or not... But I am interested and I’m on ch 6. I appreciate the details about Ward’s dark history and lines like this: “Someone this wary of bodily contact must have had his boundaries violated often and in a brutal way.”

Ahhh! Thank you so much for this story! It was well plotted and executed! You put everything that was necessary in that and nothing more! I have never read a "what if" story that was so accurate and loyal to character while still diverging so early on! Thank you for showing so well how Ward was indeed brainwashed! I feel like people don't really get that! And thank you for enlightening the team on that one, cause they really didn't get that one in cannon!

This is seriously one of the best fics I've read about Ward and how he would react and behave if he'd ever turn on Garrett. The feelings of guilt and betrayal, mixed with relief and a tentative happiness is so well described in his thoughts and actions. Of course he would not see Garrett as a bad person after spending most of his youth with the man, and it's only his newly found attachment to the team members that has him wavering.
You've captured it perfectly, especially during the poker game.
