Quarantine has me reading through every page of Castle fanfic. Thanks for writing. I had seen this one countless times but alas had never read it before. I just personally tend to stay away from incredibly gritty or tough stories, and your summary had me a bit weary. However I'm glad I went outside of my comfort zone to read it. Great job!

I'm sorry this is just one review at the end but I read this offline, late last night curled up in bed and I should've been sleeping but instead I just devoured this fic until I-don't-even-know-how-early this morning (today won't be fun at work), but it was such an engaging read that I just couldn't stop!
I think you did an incredible job at drawing a Kate so damaged by her grief that she fell into a different kind of rabbit hole. It's kind of hard to imagine her not being the kickass fighter she is, but everyone is breakable and you've shown so well how it happened to her, and you made it something I can imagine to happen to her. My heart just kept breaking for her, and I wanted to hug her and protect her. She was so very young still, and so broken. And then we do see "our" Kate throughout the fic as she finds herself, fights for herself, showing that innate strength that she has. Same goes for Rick who's still a writer and still the guy intrigued by and fighting for Kate, not giving up on her, yet battling his own demons. I love that most about AU fics, when a writer is able to put our intrepid heroes into very different circumstances and yet they are still 'them'.
And I love their love story, of course. :) And seeing them so happy at the end, seeing that they made it, and will have their own family; even if there are sometimes still questions or worries our doubts, they're making it, and it was so lovely. Thank you for writing!
