Really chapter 8 . 5/17/2017
No, your wrong. If you were to, you know, actually have looked back at the fight in the graveyard, you'd realize that Harry broke an Imperius from Voldemort HIMSELF. So, you know, there goes that theory. Because I'm fairly certain that some school children are not more fucking powerful/compelling, than god damn Voldemort. And I know Voldemort, didn't take letting Harry beat his Imperius, not in front of all his followers like that.

Well, Ron is kind, generous, loyal (books 4 and 7 notwithstanding), friendly, outgoing, a decent tactical mind, and a few other positive traits. His main flaws are food, thoughtlessness, brashness and a tendency to get caught up in his own problems and worries. None of which is particularly unusual for a young male. You called him too much of a "Wormtail" and said that he had "betrayed them at the first chance." That is patently untrue.

In book 1, he stood by his friends when the entire school hated (except Slytherin) Harry, Hermione, and Neville for losing 150 points. He stood with Harry and intentionally walked into potential danger when he agreed to the duel. He went with Harry and Hermione to confront unknown dangers and a man who worked for the ultimate evil in the universe, a man who Ron feared so much he couldn't even say his name. In return, his flaws in this book are he doesn't like school work and that he made a thoughtless comment making fun of a bookworm.

In book 2, yes, his idea about the car was dumb and he violated several laws. But, he panicked and saw the first means of transport at hand, the flying car. Panicked people doesn't always think clearly, and it wouldn't have been all that bad of an idea, had the invisibility booster worked. He didn't know how long it would take his parents to find their way back around through the Muggle side of the station, and kids tend to panic about things like getting to school on time. Ron also supports Harry when the whole school thought he was the Heir of Slytherin and he stood by his side, much like in the first book. But the real kicker? Ron followed Harry into a creepy forest to confront that which he feared most: spiders. And not just regular spiders, no. Dog and up to, what, elephant sized spiders (for Aragog)? And not just any massive ass spiders, massive ass spiders that can talk. That takes a lot of courage and loyalty right there. I think my 22 year old self would shit my pants if I had to run into that in a spooky forest in the middle of the night with no backup, and I'm not even afraid of spiders. Oh, and to top it off, Ron agrees to go with Harry to face the thing that frightens the things that frighten him. Sure, he broke his wand when he crashed the car into the Whomping Willow, but that isn't his fault. If the car had managed to last long enough to fly beyond the tree or allowed him enough control to crash short of it, there might not have been an issue.

Book 3, your objection is that he was sleeping with a Death Eater? How would he know, it was his pet. But let's not forget when he stood up with a broken leg and put himself between Sirius and Harry when they all thought he was evil.

In book 4, he does break with Harry, yes, and it does seem unreasonable. But we've long known Ron is the youngest and he doesn't like it (and there's likely some sort of psychologist speak for it that I can't remember), so it would make sense that he would be upset when Harry gets a chance for "fame and glory" when Harry is already famous. He comes around quickly once he sees what Harry has to deal with, and once again supports him when a large portion of the school hates him (with the Potter Stinks badges).

Book 5 has Ron show excitement at Harry's success (with the "knew you'd make it top of Defense" comment) and is genuinely happy for him. Far cry from resenting him in the last book. He then joins Harry's resistance group, finds growth as a character by conquering his confidence issues through Quidditch. He then joins the group who decides it's a good idea to attack the Ministry to save a convict. Yeah, book 5 sucks.

Book 6 finds him with a girlfriend, shows Hermione's jealousy issues (she sends the birds at him when he and Lavender looked for a unused classroom), and then it's mostly him and Hermione ignoring Harry, aside from when Ron gets poisoned. Eventually, he realizes his relationship with Lavender is shallow and is trying to find a way to break it off, but is not sure how.

And everybody's favorite, book 7. Yes, Ron did leave. He left after weeks of little food, no news on his family (who he had no idea if they were alive or dead), and wearing that stupid Horcrux (surely just leaving it on the table with one person tasked with making sure they didn't forget it would have worked just as well?), and, well, it got too much for him. He also said that he wanted to return almost immediately, but Hermione's charms were too good, so he didn't know what to do with himself, which is when he went to Bill's place. He then is lead back to the other two, and stays with them through the rest of the book, with raids on two of the best protected places in the magical world: the Ministry (again) and Gringotts. And, after the epilogue, Ron does admit to spelling the Muggle driving instructor. He doesn't mind rape him, he Confunded him. He made him confused and suggestible, he didn't actually Imperius the man and forced him to pass him. Note that Hermione Confunded McLaggen in much the same way to allow Ron to pass another test back in book 6. Nor did Ron fail multiples times, Obliviate the man, and then told him that Ron had passed the test. Also note that Ron doesn't have to take this test at all, but he is doing it for his wife, and is respecting her heritage as a Muggle. I agree that it's morally questionable, but note that Harry doesn't mind it, and Ron's explanation was that he forgot to look in the mirrors, something that could be covered with magic. So it sounds like he suggested to the man that the mirrors would be no problem, the man agreed, and everyone moved on with their lives, no worse for wear.

It's odd, but in your author page rant, I agree with just about everything you say, except Ron, so, once I found an area with enough "Ron-bashing" to satisfy me, it led to this. Sorry.
