Looks like Mags and Master Mind didn't study the Acolyte rule book:
Acolyte rule # 7- 95% of the time the activities of the acolytes will be done along with ( or followed by ) a parodied song.
Acolyte rule# 13- Any recruit that is old enough to be in the senior category of the acolytes WILL sustain injuries in the acolytes insane antics ( regardless if they are involved).

Okay, this one gets extra love because I remember that song growing up :D

Oh, and if I remember correctly, the 'ringer' is the fastest shearer. The bare-bellied yoe has no wool on her belly (hence the name, ha), which means she takes less time to shear. So the old snagger was able to beat the ringer's time, which is why the ringer's cursing him ;)
