Amazing! This is now Canon for me

Geez... At least Dust left the world peacefully this time surrounded by his best friends. Great job introducing and tying in an OC like Nix. I came to care about him too and his connection to Cassius was unexpected and really good.

For what it's worth, I appreciate the ending. Souls were in turmoil and needed to be set free as Dust was kind of living at their expense. Will still miss Dust like heck. He felt like a friend to the reader too. I don't really care for reincarnation as plot since the souls need to just go rest so new ones can be born with their own lives, but that's just me. I take the kids' resemblances and temperaments to be purely genetic but the concept of them being friends is poetic and even healing.

Steam's concept was pretty awesome and cannon-worthy by the way. I strongly detect an inside joke there considering the name of the server we download the game from, lol.

Moral of the story... Please don't play God with souls. Good lord, did it create a lot of pain and turmoil for Dust, Steam and the people that miss them. We got an epic adventure out if it though!

I squee'd when I read they were heading for the forge. I love Dust and Haley and I like his natural you wrote them. All of them. I am just enjoying this story so far and if I had the current time and resources I'd totally adapt it into a comic! I like it that much! Maybe fanart would do.

You know since it is complete, you probably should mark it as such. That's my only nitpick because otherwise this is a really well written story and I enjoyed it.

I don't know if you've got your account set to notify you about reviews, but I hope so. I just got the game during the Steam summer sale, and beat it a couple nights ago. Something about the game's story and the sheer tragedy behind Dust's origin and the existential crisis that looms over him if the player overthinks the situation really stuck with me. The ending of the game had me tearing up pretty bad.

Your story got me the same way, hitting on all the same notes. You nailed the characterizations beautifully, to the point I "heard" the dialogue in the characters' voices. I love how you expanded on Cassius' background, turning him from a flat mass-murderer into a more complex character with complicated motivations and emotions and an actual history. You did a wonderful job with Nix, introducing him and using him as a bridge to the information on Cassius- I hope nobody has whined at you about him being a Mary Sue just because you introduced an original character; he fits into the setting naturally and works wonderfully in his role in the story.

And that ending! I love it and hate it all at once. I hate it because it's even more bittersweet than the game's ending- I binged the entire story in one sitting and was all teary at the end. And I *love* it because it's the perfect conclusion to the existential angst of Dust's unique situation. Your execution of that ending was absolutely wonderful in bringing out such an emotional response from me as a reader. Thank you for taking the time to come back and post a conclusion; too many times I've read through an otherwise awesome fanfic only to be disappointed to find the author abandoned it for whatever reason.

I'd like to say that I hope you eventually do a sequel, but I really haven't the faintest idea where the story could go from here. So I guess all I can say is congratulations on a wonderfully written fanfic, never stop writing! :)

sad to see you go dude i just spent all night reading this and now i wanna cry so great job there man i dont cry for shit didnt even cry when my best friend died this just seems almost wrong though to be born into a life for nothing more then to compleat your quest and die i feel sorry for both dust and steam really both very much alike but forced to fight and when its over the victor dont even get a chance to live his life now thats some fucked up shit bro
