This is excellent. So excellent. I'm so glad I found this story. I really hope that you keep updating it (and hopefully a bit more regularly).

Since mostly everyone that reads HP fanfic has read the books, the mystery with the cat falls flat. It's basically a rewrite of the first chapter with Minerva's introduction. Just removing the bit about how it's a mystery that the cat's not really a cat makes the passage flow better.

I have to give the story props with a more realistic Dumbledore. One one hand, he most likely wouldn't have bothered keeping tabs on Harry's muggle relatives since to him they're not people. Yet on the other, would even Dumbledore think it would be 'so much of a bother to go find out' where they lived if Harry is supposed to be super special? I could see him sending Minerva if whatever resources he used to find Harry's relatives zeroed in on Privet Drive with a description.

[And she hadn't minded, not really, glad for an excuse to go and watch the muggles who were supposed to watch the son of two of her favourite students. She recalled Lily crying and complaining about how her sister shunned her out of jealousy for her magic and she was loathe to leave Harry with that woman.]

Hating a muggle for being jealous she can't do magic? It really makes Minerva incredibly narrow-minded and judgmental, especially since the event she's talking about happened years and years ago when both Lilly and Petunia were children.
