So glad to see this fic is not abandoned, thank you so much for updating! Kakashi being mad that a juicy piece of gossip escaped his notice made me chuckle. Poor Sasuke is going to leave the village brokenhearted, no? I worried that if Gaara gets a crush on Naruto too, it was going to get a bit much, but you seem to have skipped the fight altogether, so there were probably not too many differences when compared to the canon material. But Shino was definitely trolling Shikamaru :D that, or testing his reaction to fish for more intel... which can honestly be combined with being a troll xD

I don't actually think Kakashi deserves an explanation for what is going on between Naruto and Shikamaru. He doesn't even know that she was almost taken by Danzo or that she was training with Jiraiya instead of Ebisu. That screams of negligence, especially since he saw firsthand that those two didn't get along.

I hope Shika acknowledges the ingenuity of Naruto's attack plans when fighting Neji because that tunneling punch was clever. Also hoping for some cute scenes of the two of them talking about what happened after they split up. Also also hoping that Jiraiya asks for both of them to go with him when they search for Tsunade, maybe to try and haze his godson-in-law or maybe to embarrass the two of them. Like, how cute would it be if they had a festival date without anyone else bothering them? Or have Shikamaru keeping Jiraiya in place to keep him from peeping since Naruto said she wanted to try the hot springs (since the village baths wouldn't let her in). Maybe some more training montages for the both of them where Naruto is trying to learn the Rasengan and Shikamaru is practicing the next level of his Shadow techniques.

Oh! I also REALLY want Shikamaru to advocate that Naruto should also be promoted to Chuunin since she was the one who stopped a rampaging Bijuu (something only Kages have done in the past), also the one who actually calmed Gaara down long enough for relations with Suna to smooth out, AND convinced Tsunade to take over as Hokage while mastering an A-rank jutsu, ensuring the strength of the Leaf. It'd also be interesting to see how a promotion will effect team dynamics since everyone else on Team 7 kind of always looked down on her no matter how many miracles she makes.

I have a lot of feelings about Naruto never being promoted when big things like this happen. Someone needs to acknowledge and reward this progress!
