I really enjoyed the bits of the Memorial Day parade. A nice way to get The Winter Soldier properly confused. And it was entertaining, realizing that she got away with making the call probably because Bucky has no idea what a phone is. He didn't even realize she was contacting anyone.

Good try, Jemma. That was a good escape effort. And I enjoy all the tosses to "Jemma Simmons, terrible liar extraordinaire".

I'd say The Winter Soldier has been toying with her this whole time, but honestly, I don't think he knows the meaning of the word 'toy'.

I've enjoyed this story up until this point. The premise isn't as common as other Bucky/Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fics and the situation you've put the two main characters in sets a nice scene. For y'know, bonding. And all that stuff.
The first few chapters were great - had a real dank, evilhydrabase feel without trying too hard.
Your characterization of a Hydra'd Bucky is pretty neat, too. Not quite so blank as to be boring, but distant and - I don't know, cold but not in an jerk way?
Jemma seems a lot weaker than in canon though. And incredibly selfish. In this chapter especially. I mean, I get that she can't trust Bucky because he's still not all there in the head, but what she's done in this chapter is just so freaking wrong - and quite a bit out of character. You've sort of alienated your protagonist a bit, there. Made her unlikable. I dunno, maybe you've got some subplot brewing with that and then I'll eat my hat later when Jemma learns what she's done is a mistake but until then, I'm not a fan of this version of her.
Please don't take offense. It's just one thing I don't like about the story and a bunch of other people probably do like what I don't, so. Yeah. Overall, I like the story.
