Reviews for Throes of Fate
FireInLife chapter 4 . 7/21
I thought of this the last chapter as well, but it's weird that you don't mention Eragon being a vegetarian. Admittedly, it has been some time since I last read the books, so perhaps I'm misremembering something. But I could have sworn Eragon had vowed not to eat meat. Like, he felt what it was like to die from the perspective of an animal, and he was so horrified that he swore not to eat meat again? Like, he felt since he didn't need meat to survive (unlike Saphira), he would stick to fruits and vegetables and what not?

Could be wrong though. It has been years since I last read through the series, so I may be remembering it differently or I've forgotten something. I just thought it was strange and worth mentioning, since all of the foods that have been mentioned have been meats so far. Thought that Eragon would have at least asked for fruits/vegetables? But I dunno.

Other than that bit of nitpick, I'm enjoying the story so far. It's been engaging and fun to read. Looking forward to catching up.
Schazmen chapter 12 . 7/18
I wonder how fast telepathic communication is in Middle-earth. And could it transmit images as well as words. That would be so much faster than explaining at length.
cl9763 chapter 9 . 7/18
I really dont think 'tame' is even remotely the right word to use...

Mastermind4892 chapter 14 . 5/20
That was so beautiful. What tears of relief that poor creature must shed, free of the most terrible of burdens at last. His shoulders and his walk will finally be that much lighter.

Leviathan54 chapter 14 . 4/29
Hello :)
Finally, I found time to write the review after I was pleasantly surprised by the high-quality chapter I could sink my teeth into.

The first part of the chapter incorporates the best elements from the Lord of the Ring, dialogues between members of the fellowship. Each character shined in his/her own way of presenting a different take on the situation and showed off his/her personality in the way he/she talked. Gimili recalled the quest to Erebor and his desire to be memorized by great acts, Legolas worried about the darkness that obscures the world, meanwhile Pippin and Merry kept the spirit high. I'm happy Saphira is also present in dialogues giving her own wise advice despite being the youngest of them all.
The whole scene reminded me of the evening by the campfire when you talk with your friends and plan for tomorrow. The latter was the most noticeable by the end of that part.

The second part of the chapter was purely focused on Gollum to give Eragon a moral challenge to overcome. You captured dual personality of fallen hobbit perfectly, I could almost hear his voice from movies while he was trying his best to not become Saphira's snack. This situation is another element I find here a familiar element from LoTR again, the fellowship is a group of people who has really different opinion to handle the matter. I appreciate that.
The purge of desire for ring makes sense, considering Eragon's ability tho I'm not sure it'd be easy to digest how quickly it was dealt with for many people. Personally, I don't mind it, because we had here an example that Alageasian magic is not only for cracking bones or setting someone on fire. The happiness Smeagol felt brought a smile on my face.

Then we have vague implications there are bigger forces than Sauron that aren't happy what Eragon and Saphira are doing. I hope you'd use that wisely because "bigger" does not always mean better. Ekhm. "The increase of stake in "Rise of Skywalker" by dumping death star cannons on each star destroyer." Tho, I will keep an eye on that aspect of the story as well as on the magic matter mentioned in AN.

The last part about Eragon and Saphira's love is a bit contradicting to the point it may make little sense. They clearly love each other deeply that go beyond standard categories but it doesn't exclude the possibility they can be together even in the standard social norms. Through dialogues, I could sense the adoration they have for one another, giving me that heartwarming feeling there are people who could love another in such way. What I know for sure even though Eragon may marry an elf woman and had to choose between her and his dragon, he would always choose Saphira. I'm eager to find out how you'd handle this topic in the future chapters.

I know the feeling of looking at your story, shame you don't work on it for so long due to many things, monotony, apathy, or general situation caused by this pandemic (Looks at the chapter I can't finish writing for 6 months). I hope you stay safe too and I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Have a nice day :)
Akren Alumni chapter 13 . 4/22
the problems with resistance to the words of death is some of them are so roundabout like for instance instead of outright killing it you could in the ancient language form multiple blood clots replace the blood in there heart with air change the mucus in there lungs to a think substance and have it fill them up there are so many ways you can kill that will cost very little energy obviously will eragon use them no for he is not so cruel as to think to kill in those ways but stopping a hear killing the brain reistance to those ways of death i can see but making yourself immune to what i listed earlier i doubt many know to guard against that from eragon
animeman12 chapter 14 . 4/19
I genuinely don't know how to express my feelings about this story. I greatly enjoy it, and the ripples that are being caused by Eragon and Saphira's existence in LotR, and I will always enjoy well written stories that take characters from other works and throw them into the mix, and this story is very well written. On the other hand, while I would not say that Eragon is a Mary Sue (anyone that knows the character really can't) I will say that as much as I enjoy Smeagol's redemption, and don't get me wrong I DO, I'm not quite sure how to express my feelings on it truth be told. I both greatly enjoy it, and greatly dislike it. Much like Smeagol's feelings on The Ring, I suppose if I want to laugh at my own poor jokes.

That being said I do greatly enjoy the story, though my main qualms are with what I have mentioned prior, and with effectively dumping the LotR wiki into Eragon's mind (though I understand that isn't the case, that was what my first reaction to it was). I'm interested in seeing where this story goes after Mordor, because to be honest I can't imagine it not, especially with what you teased at the end of this chapter.

All in all the story is fantastic, and I have enjoyed reading it immensely!
