Mindhunters is one of THE creepiest episodes of Cold Case and this is really a great coda to that episode. You show great examples of Scotty and Lilly's being affected by dealing with George Marks, plus little mentions of how the others plan to deal—Vera off to the bar with Jeffries in tow is totally how it would be.

I like that Scotty is so unsettled that all he can think of is working himself to exhaustion in the gym—and yet he is clearly protective of Lilly to the point that he remains with her. Him waiting for her to walk her out, staying with her on the platform, and her leaning on him with him leaning his cheek on her head in return are all such perfect little moments :shipper sigh:

The mention of their case closure success rate is a nice touch—losing the chance to nail Marks might have been personal because he screwed with the team and threatened Lil, but it's also an affront on a professional sense. They know he is responsible and can't yet prove it.

The best part is how the ending shows that they don't want to break the moment, so they sit huddled together on a cold train bench just taking comfort in each other's presence.

Oh, I LOVE this. Mindhunters is one of those episodes I just cannot watch; too creepy...but I still remember the impact it had on all the characters. Even just watching the end montage...chills. Anyway, I love that Lilly came in to Scotty; it's a reminder of how simple their friendship/partnership/relationship was back in the early days before all the drama.

I also adore your little scene-setting moments: the pinch of frost, the cartwheeling newspaper, the moth. Just these perfect little details that make the setting come alive and make us feel like we're actually there with the characters.

Oh, that salute and "Do my best not to" is SO poignant given what we know is about to go down between Scotty and Lil and Christina. Although I like to think in your universe he'd be smart enough to go after the correct Rush sister, yes?

And her with her head on his shoulder...wow. So beautifully subtle and so them. You have perfectly picked up on the understated nature of the show in general and these two in particular. This is just a delicious little one-shot, and I love it. Thanks for sharing it.

So good! I remember feeling so awful for Lilly after that episode, and I think you captured that shocked disbelief she had on her face really well here: her repetition and stunted phrasing etc... I also loved your setting it at the railway station. That simple but gorgeous description of the teenagers at the other end of the platform really highlighted the contrasting heaviness of "our" couple. So effective!

This is excellent! Mindhunters was one of the most infuriating episodes of anything I've ever seen, and this is the perfect post-ep. Your Scotty and Lil are perfectly in character, and they're not always easy!
