Fantastic story!

I think it's very challenging to invent a new character that can fit convincingly into one of the FanFic worlds, especially the Harry Potter universe (and I'm a huge fan of J. ). You pulled it off nicely with Meagan Slayton-she's a very intriguing and engaging young woman, and her complex relationship with Snape adds depth to his character while still remaining true to the official Snape in the HP novels.

There are also some other interesting little touches I like, such as Dudley taking an interest in the wizarding world.

Does the story head back to Hogwarts? It doesn't feel like it's ready to end yet-too many suspicious loose ends (I still don't trust the lawyer). I thought your portayal of Fudge as an obfuscating bureaucrat was exactly on target).

When you make another editing run through your documents, be sure to watch for word switches that a spell check won't catch, such as lose/loose ("Did you lose the cow that's loose in my pasture"), relieve/reveal, manor/manner.

Just out of curiosity, were the gits who tried to shut down the Phantom Hill Academy of Magic from Almost Christian University or Hardened-Sinners University? Surely not McMurky.

Overall, I enjoyed The Substitute-it was a fun read. I don't think I could sustain a novel length fanfic as well as you have done. Don't let your college professors sap the fun out of writing for you.

I understand that it is an important part of the story, but why is Harry suddenly obsessed with whats under this girls sleeve? There is no explenation for it other than she is wearing long sleeves. at this point she has done nothing suspisous and Harry is suddenly obsesed w/ her sleeves. you need to put more details into why he is so interested w/ this.
