I like the line about the dying star! Your language there is very well chosen, also, subtle, I almost missed it. A dying star, of course, collapses upon itself, and a lot of people shrink when ashamed or embarrassed. Only Mr. Peabody would look at his son doing that and say he was a dying star.
I literally watched the movie for the first time a couple of hours ago and one of the first things I thought of watching the end was this fic (as I'd spied it among your cache and decided to read it one day after I watched the movie) and the premise. I hadn't clearly seen the clip but I agree, it's distressing isn't it? That Sherman would think that? My Dad said he had the same question. I guess you have an eye for the questions that matter! TBH, I think that it helped that Sherman made a lot more mistakes and problems on that night than usual, I'd be beating myself up about it too. If you think about it, Mr. Peabody 'died' twice in the movie, and both times it was Sherman's fault. Throughout a lot of the movie, I felt for Sherman because everyone was blaming Sherman for the fight with Penny, even though he shouldn't have received the blame in its entirety (not that I'm excusing biting/violence). Problem is, kids are impressionable and with everyone telling him so, it's likely that everything would have started to seem like solely his fault, both things that weren't and things that were.
Bonus points for extreme IC actions/dialogue major spot on feels, I'm going to be thinking about this outstanding movie for even LONGER now!

Omigod that was just TOO. CUTE. I never realized that Sherman meant that because HE hadnt been to the future, it wasnt as messed up. I thought it was just that it meant the future just wasnt messed up.
