KaytieJay chapter 32 . 6/24
Very late to this party but was well worth it. What an amazing story, one that will be in my top 10. Beautifully written and great flow and characters. Wished there was a few chapters after to see a little of life of our two favorite girls but it was a good ending all the same. Thank you very much for sharing and hope all is well for you.

SPOILERS IN THE REVIEW

This was an epic journey from start to finish. I was drawn in from the very beginning and could only put it down because of trivialities like eating and sleeping; long, detailed, slow burn stories are my drug, and this left me with such a feeling of contentment, even if we didn't really get to see much of them together. Anna's growth was phenomenal, it was such a joy seeing her mature from a small kid to a self assured young woman, from a commoner to royalty, from derided to respected; and the adventures she went through! I was enthralled with every single one and couldn't wait to see how she solved them and what magical artifact she came home with, to add to her ever growing collection (I loved that part btw, how she always got something for herself, a gift from those she defeated/helped). I was fearing to be a little put off, knowing that the story would be stalled until she retrieved all the six shards, but it was definitely not the case because sharing the journey with her was so fascinating, and the places she visited and people she met were such an incredible part of the whole story.
This whole world was alive, the lore, the towns, the royal families, the governing lords and ladies... it was so well done, together with the language they would've used in that period, it felt like I was transported there with them and never wanted to leave. I extremely appreciated how everyone seemed to be bisexual and no one batted an eye at it; finding out Oaken and Anders are married, or people asking Anna if she had a boyfriend or girlfriend as if it was the most normal thing, was such a refreshing addition that it made me wish more people incorporated that in their stories.
I'm so in awe with how much attention was paid to every detail; I will never forget the moment where, 20 or so chapters later, we meet again the doe that Anna saved in the very first chapter. That was such a great touch, and it only contributed to make this great story even greater. I started listening to epic music because that's how pumped up I was. Imagining the tourney, the fight with the Kraken, Nidhogg, Anna defeating Lord Brendan and reclaiming her birthright, the fight in the tower, and the final scene... I had goosebumps and was moved to tears on more than one occasion.
Thank you, thank you for writing this amazing tale.

Your writing, your story, your characters' take and development is all making me cry. Words can not discride how good your story is, truly. I can only dream of one day to manage to write like you. If even a little to live up to your writing. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. Thank you so much for writing.

Ahhh best story ever written? No seriously, your story is so good, like, one of the bests I have ever read! Thank you so much for writing this!

Holy moly! This is .GOOD! I seriously love it! I'm at the 5th chapter and it's already so nice. When I was going through Joan's story I almost forgot that this was an Elsanna story!
Heroism chapter 32 . 2/2
I remember when I first started reading this story as someone checking for updates back when you were still on like Chapter 16 or something. It's seriously a bit bewildering to think that was nearly 6 years ago. I was really a taken with this work. The whole thing had an awe-inspiring sheen to it that had me in genuine disbelief that someone really created something like this on their own, and created such sprawling, captivating chapters in such short timespans. At the time, I thought The Legend of Elsa was an untouchable masterpiece of a story. I remember reflecting on it for days after the story was finished, and I was satisfied to the point of thinking I'd never need to revisit it.

In the coming years, I changed a lot. Anyone would be expected to in 5-years-and-some-change, and after Frozen II came out I found myself revisiting my favorite fics.

This story was an interesting one to reread. I must admit, it wasn't a one-note affair of the same awestruck reception. The chapters within shed away their reverent light and revealed cracks in a once-thought-perfect countenance to me this time around.

Every story has to strike a balance between the crux of the story and the plot as a whole—the whole plot being things that set the backdrop for what readers really want. The thing is, this story is predicated on its being Elsanna. The description makes that clear, the tone and framing of events make that clear, and the overall intention is made patently obvious on repeat readings. It's pretty clear that a romantic involvement between Anna and Elsa is the crux of the story; it is, after all, the ultimate outcome.

I'm not going to be petty about it. I understand that less really is more almost all the time, but in this case the most desirable plot elements are utterly miniscule in the grand scheme of this work. Only a scarce few thousand words actually deal explicitly with the crux, and it really makes all the other elements of the story feel a bit shafted. It doesn't seem like all of Anna's heroic deeds should have a perceived lack of importance, but because of the way the story is framed, it really does impart that sentiment. Much of the story is full of descriptive language—a treasure trove of it, really. In much of the story, there are tasteful omissions for small actions or dealings that aren't needed. The only times where no detail is spared are where the crux is concerned. This, of course, makes those events stay in the mind. What bits are meant to be Elsanna are unmistakable.

The problem is that there just isn't really enough of it to justify it being held above the other elements of the story. Anna's character growth, her triumphs, her friendships, her dealings; many of these happen in a progressive fashion. Many of them have arcs of their own, and they all have something in common: they get undeniably fleshed out. For virtually every part of the story that isn't the crux, I have almost no complaint whatsoever. The portrayals of friendship, betrayal, different creatures, different cultures, battles, varied emotions; all of these things are handled with beautiful, almost startling proficiency, at times. The world building, dialogue—not to mention having the knowledge and wherewithal to have the characters speak and deal as though in a true ~19th century setting—vocabulary, and narrative flow is all seriously commendable. I can't really fault any of those things.

The overall composition just seems a bit flawed, in my mind. If the Elsanna had more of an actual, progressive arc, and more of a legitimate presence to justify its significance in the story, then The Legend of Elsa would be a true titan of fiction. Not just fanfiction, but all of fiction. Even as it is, the story is wonderful. I wouldn't dare besmirch something of this quality.

I only have two things that could really be called grievances unto themselves. The first is that Astrid most definitely should have gotten explicit closure with Anna in some way. After Anna maimed Brendan and was thenceforth banished, the tense atmosphere between her and Astrid was basically never resolved or touched upon ever again. Astrid's death and final moments felt utterly compromised, brushed under the rug after a fashion. She was much too important of a presence, I think, to not get a true parting moment with Anna.

The second is that Hans really is not much in the way of a main villain. I think this portrayal of him does the best job imaginable, but even still, he just doesn't have anything going for him other than arrogance, a suave manner and conniving schemes. He fails to be particularly convincing as something actually sinister, and many of his displays of wit come across as a bit contrived. I concede, though, even if I don't think he's great, he definitely still works.

In closing, the conclusion still gives a huge feeling of satisfaction, the battles are all still gripping and full of color, the dialogue is still witty and assured; but where I would have once called this story a literal masterpiece, I now see it much more for what it truly is. It is a magnificent achievement full of passion and hard work. It may not be perfect, but it is still a very, very good story.

To the author, Rinjin, I wish you the very best in life. Thank you for sharing your work.

This was great! Some say it was too long, but I think it was exactly as long as it needed to be.
At times I got confused as to who was saying what, but this is still head and shoulders (and a really long neck between them) above the vast majority of things here.

This is a story based on the movie Frozen, takes place in a mixed european/fantasy world, has quests like a videogame and uses medieval rules like a song of Ice and fire. Somehow it works well and the story was very well written. I'm impressed in the world building the writer has created and I would definitely recommend the story to anyone!

I'm currently dealing with that lost feeling you get after finishing a really good long book. I'm also kind of in denial that I read a 320K Medieval AU Elsanna fanfiction. Do you know how hard it is to talk about the 'book' you've been reading with other people without them cottoning on to the fact it's a Disney incest pairing? And it's a shame because this has been one of my favourite fanfictions I've ever read.

Legend of Elsa was incredibly well-written, plotted, and left me wholly satisfied by the end. The way you built up this world and the characters is inspiring. You feel like you've grown up with them, seen them grow and change, make mistakes and overcome impossible challenges. You made me afraid for their lives, you made me empathise with them, laugh at them, hate them.

My favourite line in this whole story by far was: 'My sweet sister will dance on your grave, and the pike they stick your head on will be their Midsummer maypole.'
I don't know if you stole that from something, but if that's all you, GOD damn. That was such a great line.

You've inspired me to write my own Elsanna fanfiction, though knowing me, it'll likely never happen - but I'm definitely well and truly inspired! Thank you for this amazing story.
Micktrex chapter 24 . 12/5/2019
God this story is good. The way you’ve taken separate elements and merged them into something new, into an epic, well-crafted story is truly impressive. This is fanfiction at its best, when genuine effort and passion are used to forge great stories from those that existed before.
A lot has happened in the last 8 chapters and I will likely forget many things that at the time I wanted to mention. In general, I’ve enjoyed the pacing, the world-building, the foreshadowing, the twists and turns. The concept of finding pieces of a hidden power, battling monsters and earning new equipment each time is clearly something taken from Zelda, but you have made it all your own and used each new addition to serve the story. Nothing, it seems, is forgotten and like all good stories you do not include something unless they have greater purpose later in the story.
I thought I couldn’t hate Hans more, I distrusted him from the beginning, but you made him truly villainous and the way he mocked Anna for believing in ‘the power of love’ and demonstrating how little it helped was a refreshing to change to the plot in Frozen. The revelation of the past and what actually happened, not just between Anna and Elsa, but Elina and Andrew, was appropriately tragic. I’m in awe of your ability to make a reader feel for its characters - to FEAR for its characters. I can’t wait to see how Anna deals with what she’s learnt when she faces Elsa again. I’m going to be sad when I reach the end.
Micktrex chapter 16 . 12/3/2019
This story really has a bit of everything, doesn't it. In the last few chapters I have noticed the references to Zelda becoming more prevalent (I've never played the games but know enough to know things like the boomerang, flute, moblins are related) and though it is another world outside of the one in Frozen it does fit quite nicely in this AU world you've created.
I also noticed the medieval language take a sharp increase in use and the way characters speak suddenly seems more fitting for the setting. I am not sure if this was because you were learning as you wrote the story or because Anna is older and also now around royalty and the like. At first it was a bit jarring but I've grown accustomed to its use now and it adds nicely to the world-building.
I'm finding the mystery between Anna and Elsa riveting and often wish they had more scenes together, though you do intersperse such scenes regularly enough to keep me satisfied rather than frustrated. I have my theories as to what occurred in their past but if there is an obvious connection to Legend of Zelda I won't see it coming! I saw the Weseltown feast plot coming and was glad to be rid of the spymaster woman, but the reveal of Hans as the castaway was a shock. Also the fact the woman's daughter is now rallying for Anna's head. I love how you find ways to show real consequences for actions in this story and that there is always a new danger on the horizon.
Wondering if we'll ever see Elsa use her powers or if she even has them in the same way as the movie. I can't wait to read more. This fanfic is taking over my life.
Micktrex chapter 1 . 12/2/2019
When I first decided to read this story I had low expectations as I'm not really one for AU stories - unless they're really good or feel so unique that they stand on their own two legs regardless of what characters are involved. Lucky for me this story ticks both those boxes.
I found this on an Elsanna recommendation thread and had hesitated on reading it because of the AU aspect, but in hindsight I wish I'd read it sooner. The fact you've somehow taken Frozen, given it a medieval setting with a touch of magic and monsters (and semi-sentient disney animals like Sven), sprinkled in references not only to real world history but a video game and How to train your dragon (not to mention the GOT-esque violence that just occured in this chapter - jesus, that took a dark turn!), and made it not only work and feel effortless, but written it with incredible skill, leaves me floored.

The highest compliment I can pay this story is that it doesn't feel like fanfiction; it feels like I'm reading an actual book. I have read enough fanfiction to know if something is worth my time after the first few paragraphs and a lot of the time I'm left disappointed. I can be very picky, but this story has done nothing but impress me. I started it just looking for a good Elsa/Anna story and I've discovered something with such great world-building and characters that the pairing is just the icing on an already multi-tiered cake. As it's 32 chapters in length, I've decided to review every 8 chapters as I progress but I will do my best to make each review fairly big.

Really love this and enjoying the slow burn. Can't wait to see where it goes.
turtlepig chapter 32 . 11/27/2019
I read this in two days. Thanks for writingthis is well above the quality of your average fanfiction. The LoZ references were amusing and it was a more than satisfying retelling of the original Frozen story.

I must say, the style of writing almost lends itself to a fairytale or epic poem, though 330k words is a lot for anybody. I think the story could be a little less verbose, though I am sure you know that. Fanfiction isn't held by the limitations of the capacity of a printed page, and at the very least you took advantage of that rather than abuse it.
Luna chapter 7 . 10/20/2019
I'm new in this story and obviously haven't finished it...I'm wayyy of from finishing it...but I think is really odd how this fic is called Legend of Elsa and all chapters till now, despite the first one are about Anna...I know after a while Elsa comes in doing cool stuff(no pun intended) i know, but I'll enjoy this misdirect for now.
