Here’s my theory.
1. The real Jane was never there, not even the first time.

2. Daria never was crazy. All of the various things designed to trick us in the story, to thinking Daria was slowly losing it( 2 Jane hallucinations, inability to speak, maniac behavior) were actually caused by the drugs she was being put on.

3. The doctor guy isn’t evil, just negligent and perhaps a bit too into routine.

4. The seen where Daria try’s to warn her parents is important and symbolic. Daria is convinced Quinn is about to off herself. She’s been depressed lately, and Daria is convinced that she wrote that in her diary, and was on the verge of killing herself, and Daria is convinced that in this state, with everyone’s attention focused on Daria, and daria being in a position where she was incapable of talking to her, her not fully understanding it, that that would be thee final straw.
Remember this for later.

5. The first two Jane appeareances are triggered by the drugs, it makes sense, it fits with the story, and they’re mostly echo chambers repeating what Daria says and thinks, keeping her sane.

6. The third one couldn’t have been. Despite the dose of drugs being higher then ever, and Daria’s mental state rapidly dropping, this “vision” is far less echochamber, far less direct, less comforting, and ends in a fade, breaking this facade of not being alone.
That makes no sense... from both the drug perspective(the dose is higher then ever, resistance dosent build that fast, the hallucination should be MORE vivid, longer, not shorter and less direct) and the subconscious mental perspective(her brain is for the first time starting to wear, and yet the vision is shorter and less helpful...BREAKING THE FACADE MAKE S HER. THINK SHES CRAZY AND MAKES HER LESS SANE, HAVING THE JANE VISION END WITH JANE LEAVING OR WALKING AWAY OR EVEN DARIA PASSING OUT WOULD BE MOREHELPFUL TO HER STABILITY) it dosent make sense... this Vision is different, when both factors involved are stronger then ever and ever and should push it the other way...why?
Because we’re missing a third factor.
And...this isn’t a vision.

7. Right before the third Jane moment, the Quinn breakdown happens. Why does this-matter?
Reread my 4th point, but ignore all the times I say “Daria is convinced” replace Quinn with Jane, and change the perspective you view things.

8. Why would Daria’s brain make a vision that made her mental state worse. She hadn’t gone that crazy yet, not even close.
Why would the drugs make a very different vision all of a sudden? Even though the dose was higher, the effect was reversed.
They didn’t.
Why would Daria’s brain need to create a fake dry fueled vision of Jane to keep them sane... if it could see Jane was right there, in front of them.

9. The brain wasn’t lying, the drugs didn’t cause this. And this happened right after that “Quinn” moment.
If you reread that earlier and changed your viewing perspective, you should realize...

10. The third vision was the actual ghost of Jane lane, coming to visit Daria. The first two were echo chamber drug trips, nothing more. Listen closely to the dialogue of the third visit with this in mind. While Daria was worried about Quinn, Jane was on the last thread. She was depressed, no one cared, she wrote the note. And then Daria “goes to Canada or something, cough cough.” and dosen’t even say goodbye...that’s it.
Daria can’t speak to her or anyone due to drugs and being locked up.
Just like what she thinks is happening with Quinn.
“ I need to talk to Quinn.” “ QWUIMM!” “She’ll die...”
Bang.

Later that night, the spirit of Jane visits Daria. And then departs

Well shit...

This story is ridiculous. Jane is Daria's friend. She would never let her go to a mental institution using her own diary as Daria's.

Jane died, didn't she? I actually started crying a little when Daria turned around to share the laugh with Jane...only that Jane wasn't there. It got me guessing that the suicide note must have been Jane's and Daria was communicating with Jane's spirit. I guess it's confirmed.
Extraordinary. Such a unique story, completely worth the read. I will definitely remember this one for a long time, I can assure you.

Great fic, thrilling in all the right places
It could reaaly use a sequel, even a one-shots, with Daria that deals with the aftermath... her parents, jane's suicide (if it happened), ecc.

OMG! That was so HORRIFYING! Was that why she's been seeing Jane? Has it been her spirit? OG. This is so... argh! Wretched.

Wow...that was interesting to say the least. At one point I thought that the person in the nut hospital would turn out to be some wacked out fan of Daria or something. I mean it makes sense right? Her inability to know exact details or at least think about exact details of her life and still know as much as a crazed fan would know from watching the show.

ANYWays, good fic, kept me at the edge of my seat till the very end. Keep writing Please!
