Reviews for A Long Way From Paradise
Freakylady666 chapter 21 . 9/24/2015
Thank you or this, it's amazing! Loved every bit of it. It's such a shame more people don't play with Kruger, he's such a cool character, and you have done a great job with him. Can't wait to see more o your work :-)
Chezza456 chapter 21 . 8/21/2014
If I didn't already know there was a sequel then I'd be at my wits end. I must have been up for the last three hours reading because I just couldn't stop, I just needed to know what happened next. As well as that, I've been crying (rather uncontrollably) since chapter 17. It's stemmed from happiness, from fear, from anger, pretty much every emotion. There's been so may times that I've screamed at Kruger in my head, especially when he goes for Lorelei at her house. At that point I just wanted one of the boys to shoot him, just to stop him (not something I'd ever thought I'd want to happen)
This fic has been truly amazing. I've seriously loved every second of reading it (even when I'm wincing at Kruger's methods of torture...). Your writing is brilliant, the flow, the plot, everything just worked so perfectly.
I must say, this has to be one of the best stories I've ever read (and not just thinking about fanfiction). I've enjoyed reading this so much, I literally don't have the words to do it justice.

Chezza456 chapter 9 . 8/13/2014
So I've been reading this over the last two days (reluctantly forcing myself not to read it all in one go - although to be perfectly honest the only thing I ended up thinking about today was 'When can I carry on reading the fanficc!') And as you might be able to tell, I completely love it! It's brilliant and funny and so utterly cute in places that I'm in shreds of tears one moment and cooing the next (quite literally). (And there are moments when I'm just shaking my head at Kruger with a bemused smile - the hot-tub bath was definitely one of them!)
I have to admit, at first I was hesitant about reading it, mostly because I wasn't sure about reading "Kruger with young Elysium female", but with the difference in her age, my curiosity got the better of me, and I'm extremely glad it did!
I'm enjoying this so much, and I can't wait to read the next chapters (and I know I'm going to hate myself for not reading more now), but I thought I'd just drop a review by to tell you how much I'm loving it so far!

I don't comment much, but I had to drop you some kudos for this story. I passed by it several times and totally prejudged it-I saw the kid OC and thought it was either going to be cloying and OOC or Twilight Pedo Love Redux.

What an awesome surprise to read your fic. I shouldn't prejudge! You have managed to create an OC that could be a Mary Sue, with all her attributes and special relationships, but isn't. And for all the cuteness of your OC, you don't pull punches with your Kruger characterizations. You really delivered in those last chapters. He is not a nice man and you haven't watered him down. Brills-it keeps one engaged with the very aspects of Kruger's personality that made him compelling.

And great job with treading that fine line with arousal/addiction/predation. Really nailed it in those last couple chapters in particular.

Look forward to this unfolding story. Have theories about the plot and high hopes for your delivery. Rock on. :)

I. Love. This. Nothing more to say.
Soooo excited to get into your next story!
JobanaBallack chapter 21 . 5/26/2014
Perfect! Thank you for sharing this awesome journey and for creating and writing interesting and brilliant characters!
If you decide to continue with a part II i'll absolutely be there.
leave your sanity at the door chapter 21 . 5/24/2014
Please excuse me while I shed a single, (wo)manly tear (read: bawl like a hysterical loon) for one of the most poignant, emotionally wracking endings I've had the pleasure of reading. You REALLY know how to manipulate my feelings and I love you for it! What a beautifully bittersweet ending, with stunning visuals and attention to detail, too. Is it weird that I felt a pang of sadness for the 'unicorn' Lorelei never knew she had (although she loves him anyway)? And it's true, looking up at the vastness of space is a humbling experience; your physical form and life span are so utterly minuscule and insignificant compared to something that goes on forever both in space and time. Oh well, at least our charismatic antihero in all his twisted, dark, anti-social and dream-haunting menace makes that short time a little more interesting, eh ;) You've taken what the movie gave us with his character and made something truly (inter)stellar out of it.

I'm not simply trying to flatter you when I say this fic is of a publishable calibre, alongside top rated authors such as Barry Eisler, Steig Larsson (RIP) and Jo Nesbo. Few have the skill to create a seamless mix of riveting plot, memorable characters, realistic dialogue and genuine emotion, all bound together with such an intelligent, naturalistic writing style. It's rare to find fanfic that ticks all the technically and grammatically correct boxes as well as the thematic ones (perhaps I should study it to get my own grammar up to scratch, lol). But it's the emotion you put into it, and that comes across so well, that's the real winner. Rarely has any story had me so thoroughly hooked and emotionally involved. This story is to written fiction what District 9 is to film, and that's not something I say casually. Neill Blomkamp would be proud.

It's perfectly understandable that you'd need a breather after this. You worked damn hard and you deserve to relax for a while. I'll only be throwing a tantrum if you haven't gotten started on the sequel within 48 hours ;) You can fly to the Maldives and back in that time! Flippancy aside, though, I am beyond excited to see the sequel, and I'll wait (im)patiently for however long it takes.

Until then, I remain your faithful fangirl :)

" 70th review "

Season one is over. I'm going to read it all over again. Your story is the highlight of the year! I've read a bunch of best selling books. Non of them is worth to be compare the frighteningly amazing fiction of yours. I mean it. ;)
I'll never forget the breathtaking moments, awesome story line, incredible characters. Thank you so much for bringing Kruger back to life ( he died in the film? I don't even remember ) . Cuz, he becomes part of my daily life. He's pretty much still alive.

I'm dying to read the sequel! *Jumping up and down*
So anxious to meet Kruger and HIS girl.
Lorelei is still a sweet mystery.
You're just making my days brighter. Thank you. ;)
MauMauKa chapter 21 . 5/23/2014
This has been a wonderful ride, all the way through. :-) I'm looking forward to the sequel, but I understand if you need to rest a bit.

Thank you so much for writing it. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

GAH. My account logged me off when I wrote that review and sent it under 'Guest.' Well now you know it was me!
Guest chapter 21 . 5/23/2014
That ending really hit me. Now I'm very emotional. I've enjoyed getting to know little Lorelei and gosh I just need a hug.

Can't think of a better way to end such an amazing work. It feels funny to see it end after I've been reading from the very beginning. You already know how much I sing your praises, but I will continue to do so until...I don't know how to finish that but you get the idea.

Thank you for writing this. It's helped me get the opportunity to connect with you and to learn to better my own writing. I think all of your readers and admirers would love to thank you.

God speed.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. I just love this story and the way you wrote! I look forward to the sequel!
JobanaBallack chapter 20 . 5/23/2014
This is just perfect. You captured the true essence of Kruger! And i have enjoyed every piece of the puzzle and Crowe and Drakey... Excellent character development!
500078kb chapter 20 . 5/23/2014
I forgot to breath and blink. I even forgot the whole world for a while.
leave your sanity at the door chapter 20 . 5/22/2014
No No no. Proelio Procusi is a type of Italian ham and I won't have my ignorance subverted for love nor money! ;)

Oh Drakey, you dark horse! I certainly was not expecting that, but the way you write him you make it entirely plausible. You even make Crowe being nice believable. I will forever applaud you for bringing these characters into their own, as fully fledged people who work a nasty job but, in Drake's case, have an entire other side to them (and in Crowe's, at least the capacity to be something other than a mindless brute some of the time).

But just WHAT is going on there with Kruger and Lorelei? And how is it possible that Kruger, in all his messed-up-ness, manages to have me terrififed, creeped out, intrigued and yet I dare say a little aroused simultaneously? (But let me make it clear: it's the him getting high part that's arousing. He's getting high because of the golden thread he shares with her, not becoming aroused because she's a kid) That's a testament to how well you write him, because that's precisely what he did in the film. I do love how you're drawing out his addictive personality, too, in addition to his scarily possessive streak. I'd say I was worried for Lorelei, but you've shown that she if no-one else has the power to contend with him. Kruger's new drug of choice may not always bend and yield to his will as he expects her to.

Glad she finally got her unicorn, though, even though it's less of a sentimental offering or gesture of affection (and thank Lawdy it's not, because that's not who the guy is) than a mere adherence to his own code of conduct.

Gah..Siembamba again... the Kru-ning Uncle Kruger and his Kreepy nursery rhymes. Cue unhealthy amounts of shuddering and shrinking back into seat.

GDI, the sheer complexity, the mind-frackery of this story is absolutely riveting. I love it!
