Hi! Your probably getting sick of me! But I found this story and jumped right in! I saw your note at the bottom asking for prompts and was excited...then I checked date :) I hope your muse for this genre returns and you ask for prompts again.
But back to this story. I think you captured each characters misguided motivations so well...each one thinking they are doing the right thing for Dean. But don't they realize Dean only ever wants Sam with him! I like the idea of Lisa but Supernatural is a story of two brothers...that's where it started and that's where it shines. You capture and nurture that relationship so well!

Beware: Long spiel ahead
So, I think you read my mind somehow because as of yesterday when I watched this episode, I wanted so badly to see the reunion between Sam and Bobby, and what do ya know, here it is.(Woo! And Sam had his soul like he was supposed to!) There was a bit of a discussion between my watching companion and I about this exact story line too..if Sam actually did have his soul when he came back, I was honestly thinking that maybe he would have made that same exact decision, but more in thinking about the happiness of Dean instead of his own little soulless crap. (Not that soulless Sam wasn't enjoyable...his lack of empathy got pretty funny.) Anywho, I always always always love the different takes on things after Swan Song, and once again, you have perfected it. This much awesome should not be allowed to exist. Thank goodness I found your stories. I am so happy that they got back together in the end, and luckily, Dean did not become too attached with Lisa, because after he wiped their memories in the show, that was just a little too much pain. Hmm, tbh, I have mixed feelings about this fic. I really like the prompt and the story! But I definitely didn't really like how you portrayed Sam as "unable to be alone and unable to handle himself". I understand it plays to their co-dependance, and I'm all for whumping and hurt!Sam, but him being portrayed as weak or unable to take care of himself makes me feel defensive!
Still wonderful fic and writing tho!

I like hurt sam nd guilty dean...

Yeah, I can see Sam not wanting to take Dean away from his life with Lisa and Ben if he were rescued from the Cage with his soul intact. He always wanted Dean to be happy, and I think he felt like he was the one keeping him from it, once the Apocalypse started. Sam sure had plenty of guilt for all of the bad choices he made. Maybe he was so reckless after Cas saved him, because he had experienced torture at the hands of two archangels and the hunts didn't seem so bad to him? It's good that Cas finally decided enough was enough, and took Dean to Sam. They really do belong together.

Great story! I especially loved the going it alone reference. I kinda squealed. In regards to prompts, I've always wanted a story where Sam dies for good (at any time before season 4, or he isn't brought back at the end of season 2) and so Dean goes on without him, but then the raising of the witnesses happens and Sam is one of the ghosts forced to seek revenge on Dean. I don't know, I just thought that'd be cool and emotional and I do know that if anyone can do it, it's you. Thanks! You are the best!
