I didn’t want to like this, but damn you did a good job, I would really appreciate a sequel dealing with Ben and his insecurities as a plumber. Maybe even give him his watch.

Nice work! This was a very interesting what if. One thing that you could work on is sticking with one tense. There were a few times when you would switch to past tense for one verb and then go back to present tense, and it kind of threw off the sentence. However, I don't think it happened very often. I just wanted to point it out to offer some constructive criticism. Anyway, the story overall was amazing. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.

Oh wow, i definitely have some emotions from this. You wrote this fiction extremely well, i loved it!

Beautifully written. Brilliant insight of an alternate version of what could have happened. Your Ben doesn't quite feel like the Ben we know, though it's justifiable since the circumstances are so drastically different in this verse. I think the intrinsic parts of his character are actually all there — selflessness (kicking himself out of his parents' house, really?), equality (respecting aliens even though they appear different), and of course the underlying hero complex. He is a lot quieter, a lot less confident then he is in canon, but he is not weak. You show through his actions that there is definitely an inner strength and courage in him which we love and admire.
One thing I dislike about the story, though, is how Ben's relationships with Gwen and Grandpa Max are handled. I can understand the distance under the circumstances, but the way it is portrayed alluded to callousness. Gwen may be a case of unreliable narrator, since we are seeing things from Ben's POV, it's entirely possible that she actually cares a lot more about him than he thinks she does (defending him from bullies). However I find it difficult to accept that Grandpa Max would leave Ben struggling in such conditions while praising him to his colleagues — and that in the end it actually takes one of the other plumbers to offer Ben an opportunity. Obliviousness does not even begin to cover it. This could have gone better.
Overall, this is a sad tale of taking what life has to throw at you, but it is even more of a motivational story about overcoming adversities and rising above them. Thank you for writing this. I enjoyed it tremendously.

I really liked the character study of Ben in this story! It was interesting to see how his life events both tore him down and built him up emotionally. I also enjoyed how you were able to make each of the characters likeable, but with flaws; which is important in creating well-defined characters!

Dude why would anyone flame this, it's like the best work ever! I love how Ben has a minor disability in this and that it's caused by his own stupidity, and how even though it's an AU you managed to keep his core traits and include relations to characters a lot overlook, like the Kineceleran children. I'd write a lot more but I've got a previous appointment, but keep up the AWESOME work!
