Another Sindar chapter 2 . 3/6/2018 A very humorous short story. Love your in-depth assessment of Bard in his first year as King. |
MySarcasticGreenCrayon chapter 2 . 1/19/2017 Please update this! It's wonderful. |
Cha'90 chapter 2 . 2/20/2016 I'd love to read more. Please update again soon. |
Gender Outlaw chapter 1 . 4/13/2015 I read the summary for this, went "OH YES" and clicked right away. And I'm only just in the first few paragraphs, but I just CAN'T get enough of Bard's loyal subjects. The damn moat, him almost shooting the carpenter in the eye, and the furniture maker just showing up out of the blue. Omg, I'm having the time of my life with this and it's only the first few paragraphs. I couldn't even wait to get to the end of the chapter to tell you this. Thank you. So much. |
limonali chapter 2 . 1/7/2015 I do not just like this story... I LOVE this story and everything about it, from your writing style, so well-informed, precise, rich in detail to how perfectly you depict those characters! The unlikely sheepish ruler, Bard the Bowman, the offended yet unfazed Elvenking... I love Bard as a character but there is far too much bad fanfiction of Bard and whatever OC character love stories written. This was refreshing, perfectly toned and balanced, bringing the lovely Bard nature to the front. I am waiting impatiently for more! such a delight :) |
Jezebel DeTrazie chapter 2 . 12/30/2014 Love your interpretation of Thranduil. Offended by clothes! |
Sigrid Martell chapter 2 . 12/22/2014 I love Sigrid's parts in the story! Please write more of her! Awesome story! |
Sigrid Martell chapter 1 . 12/22/2014 I like Sigrid in here! Please update soon! |
magicsintheair chapter 2 . 12/19/2014 This is a really great story :D I can't wait until the next chaper! I like to imagine Thranduil being bombarded with color and senses and not being able to focus at all XD and legolas would be used to it of course because he traveled to other places and knows the style. Please update soon! |
A shade of grey91 chapter 2 . 12/18/2014 Amazingly witty, and painfully embarrassing to witness when the butt of the joke finally reared it's ugly head. I felt for Bard, I really did...though it didn't lessen the intensity of my mirth. |
Foggy chapter 2 . 10/8/2014 This is brilliant! Your imagery catches everything in a wonderfully detailled atmosphere. You capture Bard's role as a new king and his family in an endearimg way. And I never thought someone could create such suspense over clothes! Now I'm waiting for more... |
Guest chapter 2 . 9/12/2014 I'm very sorry for reviewing the wrong chapter. I will write a mini review of chapter one here to make up for it. I had not really read anything about Bard and Dale after the war so this was really interesting to read about. I love how eager to please everybody is to the point of being irritating and comical. Most especially I like Sigrid she comes across as a very well-rounded character, realistic and likeable. In fact I think the whole family dynamic is really lovely, it is clear that they are close and have been through much together. In the second chapter, it was good to read about Bard's relationship with the master of Laketown, as we know from the movies that they don't like each other much and their relationship after Bard becomes king is very thought-provoking - I think you are completely right in your characterisation of the master here. It is sad to think of how Bard gave up a good job in the guard when his wife died, and his reflecting on that decision here and wondering if he might have been better off staying really fleshes out his character and adds layers to the story (so that I imagine the past and future of the characters, rather than just the right now of the story, if that makes sense). Also, I like the links you have made between small details in the two chapters, like the mention of the gold platters showing Smaug being shot. (I think they sound amazing, but Bard is probably right in that it is not the most tactful dish to display!) :) |
bluelusa chapter 1 . 9/12/2014 I had lost hope of this story being updated but I am so happy to see another chapter. It is such a unique storyline! I enjoyed the inclusion of Legolas. He is obviously used to his father acting like this but Thranduil's rudeness was really over the line. Poor Bard. I love how you have painted his insecurities and adjustments to this new role, as well as how you written his children. You have built upon their characters in the film and made them come to life even more. The amount of detail and thought you have put into the descriptions of the clothes and the festivities is really impressive. I have to disagree with Thranduil though, because I think Bard's purple and yellow outfits sounds fantastic, save for the puffy collar. I love that colour combination, and how colourful his whole family must look together. Although, I suppose if you come from a place where greens and browns are the colours of choice, like we can assume Thranduil's forest is, the colour explosion might take a bit of getting used to. Please don't make us wait another half of a year for the final chapter! :) |
Silvara chapter 1 . 3/9/2014 The style is great and fun, and Bard is as dashing and grumpy as ever, and you seem to be well read about Arda lore, so...what remains to be said? Besides of actually trying to gather some wits and put up a more constructive review, I mean. Well, would you consider continuing this tale, pretty please, knowing that I'd really really love that and pleasie? |
pink-strawberries chapter 1 . 2/17/2014 This story sounds like it will be just magical! I can already imagine the anniversary reunion now and I can hardly contain my excitement! I hope you will update very soon :) |
