Guest chapter 46 . 7/7 This story is really interesting. Also, when are we going to get Aleen calling Aecus Grunkle? Aecus would be her Great Uncle, so Grunkle Aecus. Also, the building bouts of energy before a large explosive final shock-wave makes me think of Ben 10: Secrets of the Omnitrix. You know, the self-destruct function on the Omnitrix. |
Guest chapter 46 . 5/18 A fantastic story, and I can’t wait to see how it ends! |
CrimpyTomato591 chapter 46 . 5/3 I have to say, this very well may be my favorite AT fic of all time. I expected it to be good after reading CoT and Yin-Yang, but damn. This blew my expectations out of the water. With that being said, I guess I'll just jump into my review of the story thus far. Chapter 1 was probably one of the most exciting openers I've read in a while. A prerequisite for almost every AT story I've read is that Finn needs to mature - and pretty much every story uses the same formula. They have Finn realize his position in the world, then have him mindlessly train to fight evil for X amount of years. Although it works, I didn't realize just how much I wanted a change until I read this chapter. Having Finn's arrogance lead to such a big disaster, and having him mature by going above and beyond in fixing it was incredible to read. It seems like a much more realistic way to handle the concept of Finn "growing up," as he has a streak for being hard on himself. Well done on the start, you had me beyond interested in the story. Chapters 2 and 3 built on everything perfectly, and I have to say I was shocked when Finn became a fire elemental. Of all the directions I expected the story to go, that was one that I didn't expect at all (though I do feel a little embarrassed for not realizing, I mean the title is Ember Alias after all). PB's reaction to the suggestion was also very well done. Great way to show her care and worry for him. The tournament was a great plot device all around. It showed Finn's combat prowess, developed his new abilities, exemplified his heroic morals, started a foundation for the relationship between Fenrin and FP, and brought some new enemies into the mix. It was a great way to build everything up, and it for sure kept me wanting more. The whole situation around Finn's "death" kind of bothered me. I don't understand how nobody questioned the fact that Fen knew about his death before the messenger delivered the message, and how, despite CB's suspicions, he was never given the "testing orb." You would think that rather than spy on Fen, he would try the simple lie detector. I think it would have been better had he simply not said anything, but it was enjoyable nevertheless. The Olympians, in my opinion, are genius. I usually stop paying attention when there are so many OC's, and as a result I lose interest and lose track of the plot. Basing them on mythological figures (especially ones that I am familiar with, thanks to the Percy Jackson books I read so long ago) meant that not only did I remember the powers of each of them just by name, but I could anticipate new ones based on who was missing (for example, I was expecting an appearance from Hephaestus early on, and was note disappointed). It was also really interesting to see how you translated their powers to fire elementals, such as Athena's IR vision, Apollo's blinding light, and Hades' reanimated soldiers. In concept, probably one of the smartest decisions I've ever seen in a story regarding OC's. The reveal of Fen's identity was awesome. The whole scene with the public lie-detector-execution machine was a great way to add some drama to the event, and it was one of the more enjoyable scenes. The attack that immediately followed was pretty good, and the way you justified Finn living through the ordeal was well done. The will-o-wisp village left me with mixed feelings. It was a cool way to have Finn learn to use some of his powers, but some of the things I feel were super underutilized. For example, the alloy that infused into his sword really didn't do much. It was just kind of there, providing no new powers other than supposed extra flexibility/durability that was never really used. This was probably just because his lava vine didn't really seem to have any weaknesses beforehand, so it didn't feel like much had changed about it. A lot of his fire elemental powers (like casting a flame sword) weren't really capitalized on either, especially now that Finn's back to being human (Chapter 46). I think the training was cool and all, but it didn't seem to serve much purpose. Aecus was a cool character and a good teacher for Finn, and I loved the fact that he was revealed to be Phoebe's uncle. The reveal of Aphrodite's origin was a cool way to both provide context and create a future ally. My least favorite part of it all was probably Aleen. I really didn't like how she immediately bonded with Finn without almost any dialogue between the two, and I didn't really understand why Finn agreed to be her protector to the extent that he did. It's one thing to keep her safe, it's another to take her with you straight into the conflict's hotspot. I know she followed him, but he kind of just allowed her to stay close to him after that point. She could have easily been sent to the refugee camp or somewhere else safe. The Fire Sage trials were really interesting to read, and I loved the contrast between some of them. You have a battle to the death, and then you have a contribution to a museum of sorts. Very interesting. My only qualm with the whole thing is just that I again feel the rewards were slightly underutilized. I didn't want Finn to become all-powerful from them, but he didn't seem to have THAT many new abilities or skills. Like for example, he still really struggled against Hermes, despite the fact that before any of his training he managed to score hits on him. The only useful power that comes to mind was the third ring, as it was used to cleanse FP's poison and finish off Hades. The reunion between FP and Finn again brought back my annoyance of Aleen's character, because it seemed like everything there was to talk about revovled around her presence. Once the conflict picked up, there were pretty much no emotional moments between the two, and the few that there were used Aleen as a driving factor. For example, their reunion turned into recounting their life story to the girl, their fight before Finn fought Ares took a turn to being about her (and ended with her saying "Mommy, Daddy, please dont fight). When Finn went through the trials, he promised that he would finish so that he could tell FP that he loved her, and that basically never happened because of Aleen. I guess my frustration just came from the fact that a fairly helpless character was brought into the conflict for a reason I didn't agree with, and it dictated almost every part of Finn/FP's relationship. I didn't dislike the interactions by any means, I just wished them to be different. The arrival of Finn's friends was really well done, and it was cool to see how they managed to take down the Olympians. Marceline's banishment, Jake's brute force/willpower, and Ice King's powers were all great ways to end the conflicts that had previously seemed hopeless. The primordial beast was a great idea, as it realistically embodied the means in which the trio intended to achieve their endgame. The fight between FP and Poseidon was a great way to take advantage of his unique matrix, while also powering FP up in the process. Finally, where the story is now: Finn taking down Hades. I think that this was a great way to stop the threat, as it is one of the only realistic ways I can see bringing enough firepower to stop it (aside from making some other character unreasonably powerful). I don't have much else to say about that chapter, I think both the idea and execution were great. With all of that being said, I am really looking forward to see how you end this. I'll admit that I enjoyed the first half more than the second, but that was mainly because of Fen's undercover identity. I really enjoyed the moments where he did his best to not lie while also not exposing his identity, as it showed a great deal of clever writing. I'm still heavily invested in the characters and in the conflict, so I can't wait to see where you take it. Thank you for yet another incredible story! It has been a pleasure reading thus far. |
Callino56 chapter 46 . 4/26 Just finished binge reading your story. The detail in which you descrive everything is amazing. One of the best stories I've read on here. I hope you are doing well and I can't wait for the next chapter!:D |
The Book of Eli chapter 46 . 3/6 Oh this was a nice surprise with Finn returned to his normal state but added his new skills as the fire emissary. I wonder how his body will handle things... |
Major144 chapter 46 . 3/4 Another great and epic chapter. We see some epic moves and Finn delivers one heck of a surprise attack that catches the enemy off guard and reverts him back to being human. Hades is out of the picture and now only Zeus remains. I wonder if Zeus has any more tricks up his sleeve or some other threat is fixing to rise up and pose a final challenge for our heroes? Either way I look forward to the next chapter. |
Cody Black chapter 46 . 3/3 I feel like I've been reading an Adventure Time version of God of War 3. I love it! Keep up the great work. |
Gamelover41592 chapter 46 . 3/2 epic work on this chapter :D |
The Book of Eli chapter 45 . 12/21/2019 The final battles are pushing all the kingdoms but i wonder how far OOO defenders can push themselves... |
Major144 chapter 45 . 12/21/2019 It's been a while, but the wait was truly worth it. We have an epic fight between two powerful forces of nature that never felt one sided. Each fighter pulled out their best tricks and tactics and it was very enjoyable to see how it played out. The final move was especially epic and I wonder if Phoebe's power will play a key roll in the battle against the army. Now the final fight draws near and I look forward to the end. |
shadow-dog18 chapter 45 . 12/21/2019 you did a wonderful job on this chapter and awesome fight too so keep up the great job on this. |

MUTO TOHO chapter 44 . 7/6/2019 jeez Louise this is getting super long. not as long as the other fanfics I've read but considering the fact that I read while I was still in high school and here I am only in my third year college and its still going just speaks how determined you are to finish it. I can't even remember where I last left this thing off. despite the fact that I've lost all interest in Adventure Time and now its finally finished and I've moved on to anime rather then modern cartoons. Except Steven Universe I freaking love that series. |
