Reviews for The Other Shore
RavenLady chapter 1 . 3/26/2005
I love the beginning, it really captures what Elwing must have been going through. And the children are sweet. A very touching story.
Losseniaiel chapter 1 . 3/3/2003
Oh lovely.

How did I never find this before?

I really like your interpretation of Elwing, and how grief-stricken she is to leave Elrond and Elros behind.
Nessamelda chapter 1 . 11/28/2002
That was amazing, the imagery and the story are also amazing and wonderful.

It makes you feel like you are actually there, with Earlinde and the others.

The bit at the beginning from Elwing's POV is also wonderful.

Bravo, great writing Alena (And sorry I'm so bad at reviews)
arabella thorne chapter 1 . 10/18/2002
this was exquisite...I admit I did not know the characters except of course for Elwing Elrond and Elros...but I loved the description..of the sun the discription of Elwing...Alena very very beautiful!
Finch chapter 1 . 10/11/2002
These young Teleri are really charming, and their meeting with Elwing drives home the horror of Elves killing Elves once more. But the best part is the first passage, a truly impressive piece of writing. It goes a long way towards explaining how Elwing could act like she did.
jillian baade chapter 1 . 10/10/2002
I loved the imagery at the beginning, when the Sons of Feanor burst into the room, and Elwing is soooo terrified by the demons of her past that she is unable to face them. Her only option in her frightened mind is to jump from the window, the action of the small girl she mentally became at that moment. I always wondered why and how she could do that, and you have made it so clear, she was too scared to anything else. I wonder how the Feanorians felt when they saw her jump? Did they only feel frustration at losing the Jewel?
Kelsey chapter 1 . 10/10/2002
Alena! This was wonderful. The part where lil' Elrond watches Elwing leave was heat-breaking. Now you have to write something happy hmmm?
Nemis chapter 1 . 10/10/2002
That first part... That's just haunting. And it immediately shows how it must have felt for Elwing to leave her sons...

And the followed by a part that is as different as possible, so very peaceful, so ful of wondering.

I'm still impressed every time I read this. Conveying a very special atmosphere, peaceful, but at the same time with so much just beneath the surface.

And then the children speaking of the Kinslaying, perhaps not really understanding, but still confronted with it. Ah, and the teasing is precious. :)

And then finding Elwing.

Somehow you just bring in the sadness at that point, together with Elwing. Her thinking she recognises lil Elrond... *sniffles*

Eärlinde realising the similarities with the first Kinslaying, once more confronted with it, and then her younger brother's words

"I think you must be wrong, because Elves won't harm little children. That just cannot happen. I think they are well, someone is taking care of them, and they'll come to find you.

Such a tragic thing, because we know lil El & El will be spared and taken care of, but that only one of them will come to find her...

I love the way you have put so much in this, little mentions of this and that, references, everything.

Just wonderful.

As always. ;))
Moonstone Tears chapter 1 . 10/10/2002
This story is brilliantly written. It flows well and I like the originality of the idea. I have written a story about the Teleri as well, so I know your pain in trying to write as faithfully to tolkiens vision as possible with the telerin language. I did manage to find one really good site out on the net, all about the teleri and a telerin dictionary, but for the life of me I can't remember where it was now, sorry! / *realises she is no help whatsoever*

"Eärlinde and her sweetheart!"

The cry rang out immediately behind their backs. Spinning around, they saw a small boy with hair as dark as Eärlinde's, and a smile full of mischief. "I'll tell everyone that Eärlinde has got a sweetheart, and it is Calion-"

LOL, that is so cute! )
Ellipsis too lazy to sign in chapter 1 . 10/10/2002
*claps* Brilliant. I haven't read Crossing the Sea yet (it's on my list of fics to read) but I enjoyed this very much. It's always nice to see a glimpse of the Teleri, since so many stories seem to focus on the Noldor. Very nice!
