As confusing as this may sound, my limited understanding of the order of succession rules generally used during that time leads me to believe that Elsa and her father would reign as co-monarchs. However, this is also dependent on a number of factors including the specific succession rules in that country, whether the newly-returned King and Queen still have the mental capacity to rule as determined by the royal psychiatrist, Elsa's competency as ruler, and possibly even whether the King and Queen have any desire to return to the throne.

this is the kind of "mama and papa arendelle return" fic that i always hope for but never seem to find. it's well thought out and not overly dramatized. (plus interesting side/back stories)

i look forward to the next chapter where we can catch m and p arendelle up on what they've missed

Maybe for the next ch, have the king and queen P.O.V on what they're feeling when they get/see home, their argument with Sir Edward since this is the first time they heard such a law and the fact that they know who they are, and their reaction when they realized that Elsa is the queen. Show what their feeling when they see her with Anna and without gloves and them hugging both of their daughters in years. Have them see on the way back that there are more people, trade, and the fact that the gates are open. Have them talk about it together in the study while their daughters are talking about them. I bet they are fill with questions themselves, but decide to wait a little longer. What is their story? After the story, I wondered what their reaction will be if they see Olaf and learn that Anna is engaged. Or do they tell the story to them before they find out?
