| anon chapter 1 . 8/8/2015 Hey, I were completely taken out of the story by the reference to the moon being Elirovir's spirit. That was because in LotR itself Tolkien wrote song about Man in the Moon. And in the Silmarillion, which gives the mythology for Middle-Earth, we learn that moon is a ship guided by a male spirit named Tilion(well Tilion is more of a lesser god or an angel). Tolkien has created such great backstory and mythology for Middle-Earth, that making up your own is going to break the immersion of any person who has read further into the mythology. I can't make it past the first chapter because of this, but the story was quite fun until the reference broke me out of the story. Basically you have to read the Silmarillion, if you plan on making any kind of references to the past or mythology of Middle-Earth, because they already exist, so no fan can just make up their own. Also elves are much more into the stars, mostly because Sun&Moon are very "new" in Middle-Earth, like less than 10000 years old, and there are several elven characters still alive who saw the first time Sun&Moon appeared in the sky(like Galadriel). |
