This is nice, very well written! However... eep... I do have one tiny little piece of advice. Feel free to ignore if you wish, but I only provide it with the very best of intentions :-)

Okay, fanfiction is very different to writing an original story. You don't need to introduce brand new characters: your readers already know the main characters. They know their hair colour, their eye colour, their skin colour, approximate height, size and occupation. So, when you refer to the character, it is really unnecessary to describe them as an 'olive skinned Italian woman' as you have done. Just write 'Jane'. It flows a lot easier and it simply looks better. Likewise, instead of writing 'the policewoman ached', simply write 'Jane ached'. Just try to get rid of the unnecessarily descriptive pronouns and you'll find that your writing will flow a lot easier for the reader.

I hope I don't offend you when I say this btw :-) This was a beautiful little story as is, but if you did decide to continue it, I know I would read it :-)
