This chapter reminded me so much of how i met my best friend, we came out to each other like five minutes into meeting.

Awww I love that true friendship. I remember when my teammate came out to me she was so scared and worried. I actually went with her to tell her parents. Now she has 2 little boys of her own and is in a happy and healthy relationship.

Recently found this fic and just finished reading thru from the beginning. Overall, really great fic. I loved the Emily/kid story with their history and close bond, the way the team was very much included and a family, and James is awesome as a character and as a pairing for Emily. The one thing I really didn't like was how Violet seemed to have a complete personality transplant for a while- and not in a good way. The story was kind of based off Emily having this great kid who was an old soul, super smart and mature, kind of a loner who didn't conform to the typical teen stuff (actually openly mocked it.) She was awesome. They were awesome. At first, becoming friends with Matthew was still cool because she had a friend but he was also a bit of an outcast and got along great with Emily and them. And I don't mind that Kaya also became a friend after changing her ways.. but then suddenly Violet is smoking pot, sneaking out (when dangerous people are looking for her even if that storyline was also bonkers for multiple reasons), going to parties fairly frequently and getting drunk multiple times, acting beyond 'typical teenager' and being super disrespectful to her mother, missing curfew, etc. Like she became the WORST. I could barely read it. And then Emily's way too lenient and doesn't punish anything and is just like oh she knows it's not okay but she's such a good kid. Um no, maybe she used to be but definitely wasn't for that time period. I totally get having some teen issues come into play, and thought minor mom disagreements or how she dealt with the annoying kinds at school was a good way to demonstrate that, but yeah that entire section was just extra and annoying. Stereotypical teen drama times 100. Combining that with several back-to-back threats (one of which made no sense) gave the fic a drama-for-drama-sake vibe that didn't match with the rest of the story. I still love the fic overall, and sincerely don't mean that as a rude review; just some constructive criticism from someone who read straight thru instead of spaced out chapters when it may not have been as in your face or noticeable. Regardless, I'm very happy that the last bit seemed more on par with the beginning. Some drama is necessary and can be woven in by the job, other characters, school, etc. You don't need constant threats to the same character and theatrics for a good story. It actually detracts from it. The general idea and feel of your fic is amazing on its own. I hope you continue with what you have going now because it's great.
