Flicker and Flame are nurturing their first egg, Sir Loungelot is nurturing an important decision about his future, and Camelhot has one more enemy to overcome before this saga is done.

King Allfire is still procrastinating, while Queen Griddle's attempts at matchmaking have risen to new heights. Princess Flame has reached the end of her tether, and she tells Flicker that she is ready to make good on her threat to leave Camelhot. However, Flame soon finds herself under threat from an unexpected source of evil that even Count Geoffrey could not have anticipated.

Merle the Wizard challenges King Allfire to send one dragon on a quest to save Camelhot. If the quest is not completed successfully, Camelhot will belong to Merle and the dragons will be at her mercy. Eager to prove himself, Sir Blaze sets out to battle the forces of evil and defeat Merle once and for all.

King Allfire knows he has a very important decision to make. By interviewing several members of his court, he learns the details of Flicker's first day in Camelhot. Allfire hears how Flicker started work as a stable boy before becoming Sir Loungelot's squire, and how he managed to prevent Princess Flame's fourteenth birthday party from being deprived of its most important guest.

When Count Geoffrey learns that Camelhot is looking to hire a new kitchen boy, he decides that Evil Knight Number Two will be the one to get the job. Meanwhile, Sir Blaze invites his young cousin Charash to visit Camelhot. A case of mistaken identity leads to chaos and confusion on all sides; only one dragon will find himself in a position to save the day.

The dragons receive some good news from their friends at Singetagel Castle: Princess Solder has laid an egg. When this information reaches Merle, she is keen to get her hands on the egg, as it is a source of very powerful magic. The dragons of Camelhot and Singetagel must work together once again, this time to put a stop to Merle and Geoffrey's sinister plan before it's too late.

Sir Loungelot has realised that he can't hide behind Flicker forever, and a crisis of confidence leads him to seek advice from his mother, the mysterious Lady of the Lake. But Loungelot is not to be the Lady's only visitor. Merle comes along to stir up trouble, and to renew an old acquaintance: a dragon who has his own reasons for wanting Camelhot to fall.

Sir Blaze is horrified when Queen Griddle arranges a court ball with the sole purpose of finding him a wife. He is so adamant he does not want to marry that he accepts help from a sorceress, who sells him a magical shoe and a plan to get out of his predicament. Flicker and Flame are sure that something is wrong, and sure enough, Blaze's trust in Merle proves to be misplaced.

Camelhot is preparing for the St. George's Day bonfire, an event commemorating the day when the evil St. George was killed in his attempt to slay a dragon. Count Geoffrey is convinced that St. George himself is the answer to his problems, if only Merle's magic is up to it. A small dragon girl calling herself Puff arrives at Camelhot to join in the celebrations.

When Sir Agraflame - brother of the late Sir Gasflame and cousin of Sir Blaze - arrives at Camelhot and pledges his loyalty to King Allfire and the Knights of the Square Table, he is welcomed with open arms. Only Sir Galahot is suspicious; he knows Sir Agraflame of old and remembers his untrustworthy nature.

Princess Flame has become despondent, and when her father asks her what the matter is, she laments her lack of patience. Allfire tells her that she can learn to be patient, like her mother, who was perhaps the most patient person he ever knew. Wishing she knew more about her mother, Flame decides to go off on a quest for information... and perhaps a healthy dose of patience too.

Sir Galahot and Sir Hotbreath return to Camelhot, but all they seem to have brought back from their lengthy quest is the rather unimpressive Lemon Tree of Leominster. However, Sir Hotbreath has also brought a secret. As Flicker learns the alarming details of Sir Hotbreath's meeting with the mysterious Puce Knight, Count Geoffrey learns of an opportunity to take over Camelhot.

King Spark comes to Camelhot with his champion knight, Sir Piston, and his daughter, Princess Solder. A deadly beast is terrorising Spark's land, and when Spark announces that whoever slays the beast will win his daughter's hand in marriage, Sir Loungelot sees an opportunity to ingratiate himself in another royal court.
