I am a new betareader but I have been writing for several years now. I expect a decent level of spelling and grammar (typos not included, but not 'u' or 'lyk'). Also there are some specific pairings I do not betatest (due to bias towards the pairing) which are stated below.

I have no problem beta-testing for fics involving the following: slash, femslash, sex (*), self-harm (*), torture (*), etc. However, I ask that these be stated in the request, so I can see straight away if I'm comfortable beta-testing that for you. This means I will then be able to get it back to you quicker if I have to turn it down. Also, please note that I may be unwilling to beta for some pairings, on the grounds that if a pairing 'weirds me out' I won't be able to do a good job beta-testing it.

I'm also willing to look at crossovers - if both crossovers are on my beta-list, I'd be happy to have a look. However, there's a chance I may have some more basic knowledge of the other genre even if it's not listed, so feel free to ask anyway. If it isn't listed, it will be because I either have no knowledge of the show, or because I don't know enough to feel comfortable beta-testing fics based entirely around that genre.

My best areas are oneshots of any genre. Fluff is also a favourite of mine. I'm able to focus less on what you're writing and more on how you're writing. Any holes in the plot can be filled up easier and I tend to find they are a lot more flexible. Plus they vary more than longer stories, in my opinion.

If grammar and spelling is something you're not too confident with, I'd be able to help with that. I also look at the flow of writing, sometimes over the plot. If a character seems to be veering towards the dreaded Mary-Sue, I'd be happy to give them a prod in the other direction.

I can sometimes get caught up in the plot more than the quality, but if I think I can improve something I generally spot it. Also when I'm focussing on improvement I am a lot more attentive to errors and can be a little bit nit-picky.

Short stories are my preferred beta-testing, as I find these easier to concentrate on. But I'm willing to look at longer stories too :)

As I've stated above, stories containing sex, etc are on a sliding scale, and I may feel the need to reject stories. The same applies to pairings - below is a list of pairings I can think of that I would not beta for, however this is not completely inclusive. I recommend stating any warnings (sex, slash, etc) and the pairing when you send the request. If pairings change, let me know as well.
