Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello! I'm HourglassDream. I'm an amateur fanfiction writer, but a lifelong reader. If you'd like a beta-reader, and if I both find your story personally interesting and have the time, I could beta-read for you, and give you my thoughts. I'd like to discuss the art of writing, I think that the more literature is discussed, the better grasp we'll both get on writing, and together become more skilled in the art-form.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
-Honest. I will not pull punches, but neither will I try and tear something down. Criticism should be constructive in its entirety, because writing is constructive in the same way. Takes a lifetime to make a story, even if it only takes ten minutes to write, because it's your story. Nobody else can write it but /

br /

-Solid grasp on grammar and spelling. This is essential, /

br /

-Being both a lifelong reader and somewhat of a writer, I know what it's like to be on both sides of the creative process. This gives me the ability to give relevant and usable feedback, instead of shit like "It's slow", "I don't like it.", or "why isn't she succ him good and hard thru his jorts already."br /

br /

-Willing and able to engage in long discussions about plans for stories, themes, and other story-relevant /

br /

-Willing to help you figure out how to best write the story that makes you happy writing & reading it.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
-Honest. Yes, this is both a strength and a weakness. If you got thin skin, hearing criticism can be painful. We're both writers though, and every writer worth their salt knows you're your own worst /

br /

-I tend to ramble on or repeat things. Maybe I alliterate too br /

br /

-Time availability. I have my own stories I like to write, and sometimes I just plain need a break. When we talk, you will have my undivided attention and consideration, but when we're not my own life and goals take priority. It could potentially be anywhere between a couple hours to a few days before I get back to you. The chance of it being that long are not very high, but I'm just letting you know in advance.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
This is FAN-fiction, is it not? Here's some franchises I'm a bit of a fan of:br /

br /

-RWBYbr /

br /

-Warhammer 40kbr /

br /

-Falloutbr /

br /

-H.P. Lovecraft and the media works he /

br /

-Those elusive but awesome indie games(usually horror RPGmaker games), like Yume Nikki, or games made by Wadanohara(The maker of Mogeko Castle, Grey Garden, etc.), just to name a few. I eat that shit /

br /

-Slice of Life anime. If I haven't seen it, I just might watch it to better be able to review your /

br /

Here are my most liked genres of story:br /

br /

-War: Whether you like describing the gear or scene of a battle in detail, showing the strength of your ideals & characters, or just want to teach a message about how horrible it really is, it's fun to write and talk about war. The real thing is much less /

br /

-Mystery/Crime: Suspense and intrigue can carry a reader's attention far, if done right. The great thing about the crime genre is it shows a lot about not only the person who commits or solves them, but the nature of humanity itself. Crimes are philosophy, failings, and sins of the flesh & psyche made /

br /

-Fun, not always serious, fluffy stuff. Because Fun things are Fun!br /

br /

-Alternate Universe stuff. A new take on an established premise or in a new setting is always /

br /

-Crossovers. Literally all I've written are crossovers. It's niche, yeah, but oh, the freedom.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
-Shipping fics. I'm okay with a bit of romance sprinkled into stories, but my love life is pathetic enough as it is without playing imaginary matchmaker between anime barbie and ken dolls. Maybe when I was a teenager I would've been all over it. Not now. Unless, you know. It's interesting. Like, maids, Love Live, or yandere siblings or some other strange stuff. I like stuff that's a bit br /

br /

-Yaoi: I like things that are abnormal, but I ain't gay. Stay five feet apart from me and swiss miss me with that shit. I will gladly proof-read your pair of hot twins making out, but not if they're /

br /

-OC fics. Technically, every character written is an OC, because everyone writes a character in their own original way. However, that OC, Self-Insert, Isekai sort of stuff? I don't like it. Bit too vain for my taste. I don't see the point of inserting your own real personhood into a fictional story other than to have a chug at later. But even then, you can still use other characters for that. I guess I just don't see the point of those types of things. Things like Isekai and Self-Inserts, edgy OCs, useless OCs, 'Gamer' OCs, they all just don't appeal to me.
