Alright guys, here's the deal: I look for people that can actually write. If you have stuff posted, I'll check it out before I give your works a shot. If I see it and I seriously can't stand it, I'll tell you politely that I can't take it up. I'm really finicky about what I read, and I base it on how the first two or three paragraphs sound. If your little blurb for the summary sucks, I probably won't do it either. I'll probably ask you for a description of what your fic is about before I take it, so don't take that personally. I just need to know that I'll stay interested throughout the entire time period I'm working on it.

It usually takes me a few days to get something done. It always depends on the length of the story. I like to say that my target zone is two to seven days, but if I'm on a roll I could do it in less than twenty-four hours. It seriously depends on what I'm doing.

I've been beta reading for the last three and a half, nearly four years, and I've done roughly forty to fifty pieces in that time period. That sounds like a real small number for so long, but a lot of them were chapter fics that took forever to get through anyway.

The one thing I do that I've been told is extremely useful is that I mark what I've done in terms of beta reading. Instead of just injecting it into your piece, I'll put my corrections and suggestions in bold or colored font so that you can open up a clean copy of the piece and work through it that way, keeping what you want and trashing what you don't. I think it's the most effective way to teach writers what they're doing right and wrong.

First and foremost, I easily adapt to how the author wants me to beta. If they want something critical and bluntly honest, that's what they'll get. On a more technical plain, though, I excel in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. I'm practically a perfectionist when it comes to these things. I don't know what it is, but that's how I am. I do pretty good on characterization. If you're portraying a serious character as a complete slob and comical genius, I'll tell you. I do pretty good on content checks and seeing if there's something of a plot line there, even if it's a minor one. I'm a description maniac, and I hate redundancy; if you use a word over and over, I'll offer suggestions on other words you could use that would spice things up.

I think the one thing you'll have to worry about me is that I get overly critical. Sometimes, the little things irk me to no end - like when you should be using a semi-colon but you don't. I make notes of it all over your fic before I send it back to you. I also tend to leave really long winded comments all over the place, so when you get it back, instead of having five pages, you have like fourteen. . I ramble a lot.

Anything smutty and romance-filled. I hate those kinds of plot lines. I'd rather take something exciting and not mushy. If I could step on it and it would mold to my shoe, don't even offer it. I also don't like slash-y ships. Don't even think of giving me something with Malfoy in it, Harry Potter people. I won't do it.
