Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader, I only will edit stories in English. That's first and foremost. Otherwise, I don't edit anything along the lines of lemons or harem. I'm pretty open to almost anything else. Angst, humor, family, hurt/comfort, you name it and I'll beta it. I'm very strict when it comes to mechanics. If your grammar and spelling aren't that great, I'll make sure it's cleaned up before it's posted. When it comes to plot, I'll be thorough. If I find issues, I'll make sure to bring them up. If it's not immediately fixable, I can offer suggestions. If you don't like constructive criticism, I'm not your beta. I won't be rude or hurtful, but I will be up-front. I try to be punctual, but I have three fanfictions and school, so bear with me. Depending on the length and attention a certain fanfiction might need, generally it shouldn't take any longer than a week for me to finish. If it needs more time, I'll be sure to notify you on how much. Oh, and if you're interested, when you PM me, please include what it's about and for what category. You know, just general information. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have to say, if I excel at any one thing over another, it would definitely be mechanics. My plots can have holes, but my grammar and spelling are top notch. If you aren't that concerned with the plot, or have that part down, I'd be your beta-reader. I don't mind if it's really messed up and hard to read. I'll sift through almost anything to make it an enjoyable story to read. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My biggest issue as a beta-reader would probably be over-critiquing. Obviously critiquing is what I'm supposed to be doing, but I can be unnecessarily nit-picky. I try my best to reign it in, but when we peer-edit at school my biggest issues are giving a friend back a paper riddled with red pen. Because this is a slightly different situation, I wouldn't change anything unless I had explicit permission, but if you're bothered by the occasional nit-pick, I might not be your beta. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Naruto, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Supernatural are my most comfortable. I would also be willing to beta Twilight, Kane Chronicles, Divergent, Harry Potter, Soul Eater, Sword Art Online, Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, and Danny Phantom. Oh, and crossovers between any of these are welcome. I can beta for fandoms not on this list, but I can't be any help with plot if I'm not familiar with the fandom. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Like previously stated, I wouldn't beta-read lemons or harem. When it comes to specific categories, I wouldn't beta anything not previously stated on my preferred list, mostly because I haven't read or watched them. If you just really want me to, it would be strictly mechanical. I wouldn't be able to assist with the plot whatsoever and could only change up the grammar and spelling. |
