Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a lover of detail. And by detail, I don't mean every little aspect of what a person's wearing, or the intricacies of a battle uniform. I love to read through the progression, the development of a character, the struggle to be the best and fight for what they believe in. Through perseverance, character is built. When I am reading a story, this is what I look at. How are you developing your character? What are the struggles that they will face? Great stories are character driven. What are your characters like? What drives them? What is pushing the story forward?My style is open and honest. I'm not going to rip a story apart just so we can see it in shambles. Who wants that? I will tell you what is good about a story. Let's build on the strengths that you have, and develop in the areas that could use a little more work. In every story I beta, I will tell you what is ok that can become good, and what is good that can become great. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have a great attention to detail and structure. If a sentence doesn't look quite right, or if there are repeated words or phrases, I'm going to point that out to you. I also love development. How are you building your story? I will look at characters, plot, scenes, setting, themes, etc. If you ask me to beta for you, I will want to help you build something great. Bring the idea, and let me help you get there. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I do not have an expansive vocabulary (I would put myself at average or slightly above, but for this site, that's good enough). I also don't do well with a variety of genre's, and I have a great lack of experience in humor, horror, and romance. When it comes to these, I will do my best, but understand that I'm not betaing a genre, I'm taking a look at your writing, character and plot development, style, etc. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
For whatever reason, I love reading crossovers. I've been on a big crossover kick these past few years, and I find them very interesting. The more unique and believable it is, the better! That said, I also stick to what I know: Shonen. My two main areas are definitely Bleach and Naruto (in that order), but I'm open to other canons as well. If its listed, shoot me a PM, and lets see what we can do. I love action/adventure and fantasy stories as well. Can't really go wrong in my book if your story falls into one of those categories. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
yuro, yaoi, harem, fluff, suggestive, etc. This includes extensive foul language and extremely graphic or sexual scenes. My profile says that I will beta M rated fics. That is true, but not M rated 'sexual' ones. Blood, guts, and gore...great! Naked people in bed together, with whole paragraphs dedicated to the details...not so much. |
