Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've betaread before and have several years of experience. Unfortunately, I don't have too much time at my hands, so I won't be able to betaread your stories right away. When I do find time to betaread, I'll put a lot of time and thought into it. Personally, I prefer stories that are completed before they're posted so I can see the bigger picture, but if that's not your thing, I'll be able to roll with it.About my betareading style... I've been told that I'm good at balancing criticism and praise so there's that. My reviews are often lengthy and I like to help writers to find what works for them and what doesn't. It's been about a decade since I started my studies in English, but I'm not native speaker. It has its perks though, since I often notice basic errors that people native in English tend to overlook. And yes, I do constructive criticism, because I think the most important thing when being a betareader is to help the writer get better. My motto is to do and say what I would like someone to do for me and my writing. In short: 1) I can't promise instant results, but I do try to work as fast as possible. 2) I'm not native in English. 3) If you can't handle constructive criticism, this won't work. I won't expect you to always do as I suggest, but my help will be useless if you can't accept that your writing isn't perfect - no one's is. As I mentioned before, I try to praise too in my reviews, but some still might find them too heavy. My number one goal is to help, everything else is negotiable, so don't hesitate to shoot me a message :) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
As I said in the bio, I've been told that I'm good at balancing criticism and praise. I've done this beta thing before so I know what to keep an eye out for and most of the time how to tackle the problem. As a person, I love to help people, which means helping you find your strengths and weaknesses is important to me. If you need help with working out the plot or similar, I'll be glad to be at service. Also, I won't try to dictate how you should and shouldn't write your story, but respect how you choose to build it. I'm currently studying for a degree in Nordic languages and literature. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't have as much spare time as I would like to have. Sometimes I have more, but there are weeks when I barely get to sit down for a cup of tea or take a much needed nap. If you're in a hurry, this might become a problem. My English grammar isn't perfect either, sometimes I make mistakes. And I'm a human being, so you have to take in account that you and I might prioritize and like different things. This is a thing we'll probably notice while working though. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
One shots, short stories - fics like that. If you're writing a multichapter story, I'd prefer if it was completed before you send it to me. It's also preferable that if the story isn't finished yet that you at least have a plotline before you begin to write so we have something to work with. I read pretty much every genre, but I'm a sucker for stories where the characters' emotions and motives are central. And to be honest, sci-fi & fantasy have a special place in my heart. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm open to most things, but there are pairings that I preferably don't read.Tell you what - if you think I'd be a good betareader for your story, PM me. Tell me about your fic (pairings, trigger warnings, genre, general plot) and if there's something you'd like me to focus on (character development, for instance) when betareading, and I'll see what I can do. If I suspect I won't be the best possible betareader for your fic, I'll tell you and you'll be able to find someone more suitable for the job. Sounds like a fair deal? Great, I'll be waiting for your message! :) |
