Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
If you want me to beta read, you need to review a recent story of mine or leave links to thirteen reviews you've given other people. Further details are in the threads on my forum.

I take writing seriously. Worldbuilding and characterization are very important to me, as is internal consistency in general, and they're what I pay most attention to in a story. If you tend to make changes without having a reason behind it, you really shouldn't ask me to beta read.

Don't ask me to beta read if you haven't bothered to learn basic grammar rules. I'll correct typos and accidental errors, but I'm not here to fix things you were just too lazy to bother.

If you've seen my reviews, you have a good idea of what my standards here are. Please do not assume your story is certain to be the wonderfully written exception that I'll say is perfect. Expect to get corrections, not gushing.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Coherence. I like reading stories that fit together, and that's what I naturally look at when I read a story. Characters should have viewpoints that make sense in the context of their world and personal experiences, the world should fit together as much as possible, and any change to one area of canon should lead to corresponding changes elsewhere. I'm also pretty good at finding alternatives for things I pick out as not making sense, as I know it doesn't do much good to simply tell people what they're doing won't work.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm pretty much self-taught in regards to grammar. This means that while I'm very familiar with the basic rules that pop up everywhere, I'm shakier with more subtle things, especially ones that aren't found as often in writing. If you're already very good with mechanics and you want to be sure nothing is missed, you want someone more experienced than I am.

I'm not familiar with a lot of later Pokemon canon and I don't follow spoilers. I stopped watching the anime midway through Johto and have seen only bits past that point, only played through the initial storyline of Mystery Dungeon, and haven't played Pokemon Ranger. I've started reading Pokemon Special again but haven't gotten past the fourth book. Don't ask me to beta read stories centered around that - I won't be able to notice OOC or canon errors.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'm in the Pokemon fandom because I'm interested in stories involving pokemon, so I have no interest in anything that focuses on guns or other manufactured weapons instead. I like original characters and I'm especially familiar with original trainers, but I'm only interested in humans if they're interacting heavily with pokemon or else some aspect of the canon world, like stories fleshing out why people join evil teams. I like stories to have some sort of a plotline to them and/or a heavy focus on worldbuilding. Character-driven is okay, an OC just wandering around doing the same boring things as every other trainer is not. Mewtwo is easily my favorite canon character.

In Homestuck, I like the nonhuman characters best, especially carapaces. I will read anything for carapaces.

Please note that liking original characters does not mean I won't call a sue a sue.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
If I'm in a fandom it's because I want to read stories that have to do with the canon, not stories with one or two surface similarities.

Anything that's humor in the sense of people acting stupidly or at random will make me wish for you to be run over by a truck. Don't.

I have little tolerance for romance that's just for the sake of romance. I like seeing how characters interact, but I don't want to read generic pairings. Unless it's carapaces, I will read anything for carapaces.

In Pokemon, I'm rapidly approaching the point I could write a dissertation on why you shouldn't have overage trainers. If you send me something like that, expect to get that dissertation included in any response. It's possible you're a rare exception, but don't expect to be.
