Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
If you look at my profile you will see that I have a fairly lengthy story already up, and have had to do the proof-reading and grammar checks on my own (Open Office, as anyone who uses it knows, does not have a grammar check like M-Word. Not to mention spelling errors that look like other, actual words). This, I think, has qualified me pretty well to look over others' stories for minor spelling mistakes or grammar errors. As a minor example of this, I recently copied all of Regulus' R-Series for Harry Potter and have found a few errors that I fixed in my copy of the stories.

I also have several other stories on my computer that I want to post, but also want to wait until they are done until I post them.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Having read books since I was in Kindergarten (AKA since I was five, and I'm twenty as I type this), I think I'm well versed in how best stories flow, and I always find it kind of fun to find any spelling error I can in a professional publication.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I think my major weakness in this department is that I'm a little narrow-minded in what KIND of stories I read. I love fictional stories and the occasional romance or angst, but some kinds of stories (usually involving Yaoi or incest. Not my cup of Earl Grey, thank you) kinda drive me away. There are some in which this is tastefully done, like riderofdragons' fic "In Search of Her Place" for Love Hina, but not many.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I wouldn't mind proof-reading anything from any of these categories: Almost any anime, though are a few I'm not familiar with that I might have to decline, plenty of cartoons/comics/games/etc. As for story types, I'd say yuri, self-insert (I can try to help keep your character from being nick-named Mary Sue), cross-over (most of my own ideas are in this category), time travel, continuation, and "fill in the gaps" (like ones that answer what happened in the nineteen year gap at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, or the four year gap at the end of Love Hina.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Yaoi is most definitely NOT something I'm interested in reading. I know that there are plenty others who like it, and that's fine by me. I just don't want much of anything to do with it. I'd prefer to not do incest stories unless somehow the two characters aren't actually related (like Kanako and Keitaro of Love Hina) or something pushes them together while they remain in-character. Stories that have more than three people as the main "couple" of the story are also mostly out, only exceptions being ones like Calamity-Queen of Cordite's "Wild Horse Thesis" in which the main "pairing" is Ranma (both forms), Rei, AND Asuka, which includes all three characters loving every other member of their little triangle. If that requires Yaoi to work, then count it out for me.
