Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I tend to be quite critical, specifically in the fields of spelling and grammar. I am a speaker of English as the Queen intended it to be spoken, though I am an American by citizenship and birth. I care little for slang outside of the course of evironment of a story, and I care greatly for exposition and detail. In order for my services to be considered beforehand, I must have assurances that the work before my eyes is a work of your heart and soul, a work you have created solely to entertain with an emergence from the depths of your soul. If you truly care for your work, then you will find in me an avid fan and a thirsty reader. If you bandy about with internet memes, or cobble together painfully-broken phrases and intend them to pass as sentences, then you obviously care little for your work, and shouldn't need my offered services.Do try to understand, I have little patience for those who feel the need to rush every little thing and throw an idea, half-baked and ill-matured, through the mill of public opinion, and then, upon negative reception, they feel the need to cry foul and huff about how much work they didn't have the time to do. My patience is reserved for those who have patience themselves, those who recognize that they don't have time to work just then, and wait for their little nest-egg to grow into something that can be molded and guided into a work of fanfiction that begs to be read. It is not a law, nor even a suggestion, that you post every day, every week, or even every month. While many of your readers may -wish- you -would-, it does them no benefit to have you post an ill-conceived work of agony to the optic nerves, and only serves to discourage you from further publication. A true service to your fans, however, is to write what your heart begs to be written -as your heart begs it-. Your fans will love you even more, and tolerate almost anything, if you take the time to write something true and pure. And that is my job; to ensure you see something in yourself that others see. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am quite strong in spelling and grammar, as well as the ebb and flow of story progression. I am honest, fair, and unbiased. It is not my story you are writing; it is yours. In that vein, I turn a blind eye to any unfavourable matches, any discordant events within your planned story-line. I will offer alternatives, where I see a -real and true- problem, but in the end, my alternatives are simply suggestions, and I will not be the least embittered if you choose to ignore my suggestions. In this, I am a reasonable individual. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am extremely detail-oriented as a person, and thus scenes that encompass a great deal of dialogue are confusing to me. I am easily confused and lost without a small amount of exposition before hand, and I tend to lend an over-critical response to any fanfiction that lacks some semblance of uniformity, by which I mean format consistency. I admit to being human, and having a great many flaws; however, I shall do my best to give you the fairest view I can. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer Harry Potter, Dragonriders of Pern, Ranma 1/2, Mega Man (save the Battle Network/NT Warrior universe), and Sonic the Hedgehog as these are the stories whose canon with which I am the most familiar and enamored. A close 'second' comes in the form of most Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Legend of Zelda, or Castlevania stories, not because I am less familiar or properly enamored, but because many of the fanfiction stories within these categories are, to be blunt, less than desirable or forced. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I am open to anything, to be honest, but I will let you know beforehand if I feel I cannot be objective or impartial while betareading your fanfiction. |
