Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Okay well I'm pretty new to beta-ing or whatever but I think I could do it if I tried. I'm always fanfictioning even when I'm on my vacation so feel free to always ask me to be a beta reader for you.I usually just read over things that are written, maybe an hour or so after it's written, so you can see how things sound, and not right after you come up with it. And that's because, maybe you thought one metaphor was absolutely perfect when you wrote it, but when someone else reads over it, or even when you read over it, you think it sounds like crap. I like to make sure words flow well, like a real conversation, so I think if a paragraph sounds like you're just listing events that happen, I'll definitely tell you, because I pride myself on saying that I'm really honest. If you want me to beta for you, just ask, really, and I'll probably say yes, but I guess my expectations would be for you to not take offense to everything I say, to not always be defensive and to understand that I have a weird sense of humor, I'm lazy, and sometimes, when I do get off my couch, I have really busy times and can't always write, and also that I have my own crap to write too. I'd also expect you to be... I don't know what the word is but like... interested in getting better and not just blaming me for everything. i would hate it if you're all like "It sounds great, you're just being mean!" there would be absolutely no point of me beta-ing you, and I'd be pissed if you just wasted my time. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Some of my strengths would be : using really good word choice (I'm like a walking Thesaurus), giving plot ideas, spelling (sometimes), character names, and grammar and writing conversations. I like to write what I think the character would say, to really get a good conversation going, and then add it in. I might have an idea of what the answer would be but it has to be personalized and I'm pretty good at that. I can really get into my characters, I'm good at doing unexpected things. I'm also really interested in sending another message with my writing and not just the cliche everyday "You can find love anywhere" I think Rhianna did a good job of capturing that so I'd rather send a message like: Everyone has hard times or the ever great: Don't judge a book by its cover. I'm quite good at characterization and writing little nerdy moments, probably because I've experienced so many. Also, I've got all these dreams of romantic moments so don't worry about not having any romantic ideas. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not particularly good at : noticing plot holes (like saying at one time someone has green eyes and later saying they have baby blues.) Sometimes spelling, and concentrating on one thing (ha ha a 1D reference) and I'm definitely terrible at keeping on schedule, but I would if someone else was dependent on me. I'm also not funny, and people sometimes say I'm self absorbed (?) and rude. So. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'm really good with deep depressing stories so if you're a usually happy, bubbly person I can totally help you out. Sarcasm is also like a second language to me. Yeah I'm bilingual, but it's usually dry, mean kind of sarcasm. Like, being a smartass for no reason, but that's just my personality and I can't help it. I really like doing adventurous stories about girls who kick ass, or anyone, really, who kicks ass. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Please don't come to me for oneshot songfics or sad oneshots in general cause I cant write them. Or just lovey fluff either... I kinda suck. And I'm not like St. Fang of Boredom or Pheonix Fanatic, my fanfictions don't have any random, extremely hilarious humour. Sadly enough, you'll have to handle that yourself. |
