Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hey!I'm Snarsha, and I'm part of the beta-reading team OYA. There are up to four of us at a time, but that sometimes drops to the grand total of 2. We're based in New Zealand, just in case you were interested... The second member of the team is my co-writer, Shay/Ivy. She's wonderfully one person, then fantastically another. Sometimes, though, I don't know who she is at all! The third member is xXGlaceonXx. She breathes fire and shoots nails. She's a spelling and grammar Nazi, and is an amazing person to have on the team. Last but not least is the description spazzer. She writes and writes and writes and thus we have her on a tight rein. Her name is AbominableWriting, and she's epic. Just to round off who we are as a group, I think Shay/Ivy's words are entirely appropriate Fantastically incredulous words compiled together to make no sense in fabulously intriguing sentences lined up to make you disorientated in flawlessly imaginative paragraphs to make you shiver with insanity in a fearfully inspiring compilation to make you feel overwhelming dread. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Abominable and Glaceon are great at spelling and grammar, while Shay/Ivy and I are pretty good at pulling out repeats, things that don't make sense, and things that we think could be better.In writing, we basically just muck around and do it for the fun of it. We like editing because we get to read things that other people have created, and to help! My personal strength is delegating tasks - it's brilliant. ;) I check for consistency - it really bugs me when something doesn't quite match up. I'm also the team's general information guru and Time-Lorder - I love Doctor Who and can check any detail of sci-fi, even if I didn't know it previously, I will gladly go on the hunt. Shay can write a mean plot with twists and turns that leave your head knots! It's crazy - just run to her for ideas (I have for ages now). Her knowledge of Pokemon is unsurpassed in my eyes, and will perfect any related anything! Abominable's descriptions are stunning! They pull so much out of a scene that you feel as though you are standing in the middle of it, whether it be drowning in some hunks eyes or fighting off ravaged zombies with a kitchen knife. She can check Twilight details, and is real good with shipping details of most vampire related romance-y sort of things. (Think Vampire Diaries...). Glaceon's strengths mainly involve ranting, and fixing every error that was ever known to exist on the planet. Her and I make a mean team when it comes to writing ideas and back stories, if I do say so myself. I am obliged to say that she can come up with some pretty good stuff on her own - she doesn't need me for that! Where Ivy thinks Pokemon, so does Glaceon, but in a different way. She can rattle off the characters and ships like it's nothing, and will check these perfectly. When it comes to Harry Potter, we're all nuts. Taa daa! |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Personally, I can't spell to save my life. I'm okay with grammar (I lie), but Glaceon is brilliant! That's the point of working in a team, I guess.Abominable goes off her head with description and word replacement sometimes - going into such deep conversations about one word that can drag on for over an hour - but we're working on that. Likewise, Glaceon can spaz out with simple errors and go, in my opinion, way over the top. Shay/Ivy is at odds with Abominable - her plots are brilliant, but cannot write a detailed passage about peanuts. Literally. We've made her try. Glaceon can get a bit carried away too, but it's mainly her over-reacting about a small detail that slows her down. With a team effort we can pull back on track though. A group weakness of ours is our tendency to get distracted, and to sometimes just plain run out of time. We've found that, in the past, having four of us to work on a project keeps us on the straight and narrow, and things get done. The point of it all is that although we each have our weaknesses, they are more than made up for by the strength of the whole! |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
We're interested in Pokemon and Harry Potter mainly, but we will Beta most stories.We also enjoy having a good laugh, as our unpublished stories that we write - one-shots mainly - tend to swing that mainly. Overall though, just give us something we can sink our teeth into! Right at this moment, we would prefer to only beta short stories, and/or stories that have already been published. We would normally take on large projects, but we have a couple of huge ones going on right now that we don't know the end of. They'll be in the works for a long time, seeing as they are still being written, so short stories and side projects for now. However, don't let that deter you from asking us to beta a long story, or even a shorter one for fear that we won't get it done due to time constraints. Everyone needs a break every now and then, and taking a break from doing one story and doing another is just as good at times! Also, our beta profile wouldn't be up if we couldn't cope with more projects, right? |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Some of us don't write or read slash, smut, fluff or yaoi. That's our personal choice, and because of it, we would prefer not to beta stories such as these :PHowever, having said this, you can still ask us. Just don't expect the whole four of us to be working on it! Also, most not-well-known fandoms and such are hard for us to beta. This is simply because we have never really explored them ourselves. We are very willing to give them a go, though - just talk to us! |
