First and foremost I read to see if the plot makes sense. Are there major holes you've neglected to fill? Does the story flow well? Does the pacing make sense? After that I look at whether or not something is in character. I love an AU if it's done well, but at the same time, some of the characters used in fan fiction are rather iconic, and if you deviate too much from who they are, they become less recognizable to your readers. If you want me to believe that a character will act in a way that deviates sharply from canon, then I want you to really sell me on the idea and develop those aspects of the character's personality. If you've added original characters, do they fit with the existing characters and the show/film/book's canon? Finally I look at grammar, spelling and word proper word usage. I'm happy to beta for someone, but I do provide honest feedback and constructive criticism that is designed to help. I feel that I benefit tremendously every time someone puts forth the effort to provide constructive feedback on my own writing, and I hope to do the same for others. I am a public relations/communications professional and have years of experience writing and editing.

I have beta-read in the Harry Potter fandom for Ariel Riddle, Maloreiy, Lovergurrl411, and Crochetaway.

If I know the show/book/film well, then I'm pretty good at fitting a story into the canon so it becomes a story that believably could have happened. I'm pretty good at looking at a story and finding the plot holes where the writer needs to flesh something out more so it makes sense. I think with fan fiction, there's a tendency to slack off on character development because typically your audience already knows who the characters are. I'm still working on improving my character development, and I'm happy to help others as well.

I work full time in PR and am a single parent, so I don't have a huge amount of time to devote to serving as a beta, but I'm certainly interested in helping where I can. I may not be able to provide immediate feedback, particularly if we're on opposite ends of the globe.

I prefer to beta Harry Potter universe stories centered on Hermione Granger, preferably Dramione, Lumione or Snamione pairings. My preference is rated T or M. I'm also very knowledgeable about the All My Children universe and would be happy to beta stories centered on Erica Kane.

I dislike the Ron/Hermione pairing, so I've no interest in beta-reading those.
