Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Greetings, I am Marx. As a beta-reader, I am thorough, honest, and fun (at least I hope so!). As my style, my work is typically very easy to understand and accurate as determined by years being drilled by my professors at university. If you want me to coddle or go easy on you, I'm most certainly not the beta for you. I am never needlessly brutal or cruel, and I'd even go as far to say that I'm a relatively fun person to work with (again, I sure hope so!), but as a writer, an author must realise that constructive criticism isn't all butterflies and rainbows. I will be honest, and I will be thorough, and if you as an author are really preparing to either write as a profession or be professional on a fun project, then hit me up! I look forward to working with you! |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a very thorough beta-reader (and author, for that matter). If there is a spelling/grammar mistake, I will find it. If there are plot holes, I will definitely bring them up to you, and if you need, I am always there to bounce ideas off of in times of need. Furthermore, I'm well-versed in slash/yaoi, simply because I am gay and male, so any potential inconsistencies on that regard will be found. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm an English chap, through and through. I can do US-variant English because I'm very familiar with it, but it might take a bit longer (but not by much) to beta-read. I will have to go over it a few times just to make sure my eyes, which are trained to look over Queen's English and frown heavily on American slang, get every possible mistake that could potentially be there. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'm up for anything within my specific categories listed — Criminal Minds, Death Note, the Elder Scrolls Series, Glee, Harry Potter, Kingdom Hearts, Nabari no Ō, Naruto, Push, Shaman King, Timesplitters, and the Umbrella Academy — but other fandoms will be considered under recommendation or particular author. I'd prefer if the stories I'm asked to beta-read are within the T to M range (PG-15 to NC-17), but this is always up to consideration depending on plot, scenario, and author. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Firstly, I refuse to do mpreg. The best part about being male is that we can't have children, for chrissakes. Absolutely not, go take your fic elsewhere. Also, I'm up for any kink that the world has ever thought of...except scat. Yeah, no. Also, too much graphic yuri and I'll just get confused, since I am a very proud gay man, thank you very much. |
