I am new to beta reading, but as of late, a few works have sparked my interest in offering aid to any writer that might need a hand. My works do not all show great promise of their own and those that I have edited now show approximately my skill level as a writer. I recognize that it is often difficult for a person to edit their own work because of how close they are to it. I would like to help the creativity of any work shine by pointing out these issues and offering solutions so that the author might recognize a frequently made mistake and correct themselves in the future as that has been one of my own downfalls. If you want me to beta your work, please ask and I'll be happy to take a look.

With that in mind, if I am to beta a work I expect to be able to pm the author with not just simple fixes for their work, but with suggestions for improvements and occasionally plot or character questions as needed.

I am typically good at recognizing idioms and phrasing that better suit the author, the story, and the context of the story using American English. In fandoms I am familiar with (such as My Hero Academia, Fariy Tail, Blue Exorcist, etc.), I excel at recognizing character issues such as mischaracterization and stereotyping. I have a relatively wide knowledge base, but I do also have a particular interest in physics so I can also check a story for excessively inaccurate physics.

I may not always know the best alternative to phrase or write something. As can be seen in my older pieces I have occasionally struggled with my own grammar, but I have improved enough over the years to recognize a problematic sentence and can at minimum ask the author to either clarify so that we might work around the issue. Anything to do with poetry, however, is not my strong suit.

I do tend to prefer darker angst-ridden stories, but I'm fine with most anything except for poetry. Honestly, I look more for creativity in a story than anything else. That creativity may be that the author has chosen an odd pairing, an obscure topic, has an interesting mechanic, or simply a compelling plot in mind. I do lean towards editing shorter stories because I am a new beta, but if there is a long story someone would like me to edit then I'd be happy to take a look.

I genuinely have no interest or experience in stories dealing with poetry and I'd prefer not to read a song-based story. Also, please do not ask me to review a religion-centric piece if the religion is not a part of the story in a significant fashion. I don't want to review for example a piece that pushes Christianity as the only religion, but I don't mind a story that includes Christian characters. Aside from that, at this moment I have no preference.
