Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm new to being a beta, and I don't even have one myself (yet). So if you're new as well, we can fumble around clueless into the depths of beta-ing. If you've had a beta before, you may need to show me the ropes at first, but it's okay, because I'm a SUPER fast learner. I'm flexible on any category, really, so if I become a regular Beta of yours, and you decide to write a story on a new category, I'll probably still Beta it if you want. Be nice, or I'll drop you like a hot rock. And- If you make a character say "OMG!" and it isn't a pre-teen/teen character with a questionable I.Q. average, be prepared for the rocks I shall chuck at your face. ;P |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm particularly good at pointing out when characters get too Mary-Sue/Gary-Stuish. There's more than just the "I'm so amazing, everyone loves me" Sue- there are many different types. I'm excellent at finding plot holes of all types. I LOVE details (unless a story is purposely vague, for more effect), so I'm excellent at adding 'em if needed. If you're a guy, I can give you a better female perspective on things, to help out when writing a female's P.O.V. I have an exquisite vocabulary, and cussing is A-OK with me, since I do it nearly all the time- I have the mouth of a sailor. But, if you don't cuss, that's cool too, and I can put my sack full of colorful vocabulary away for another day. I can beta read crackfics, too. :) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My paragraphing is kind of off, and I'm not that great at descriptive kissing and such- it's not that I won't read it, it's that I can't write it, so you'll be on your own in that department for the most part. I'm TERRIBLE at regular updates! But if I'm beta-ing a story, it should take less time, so I might be good with that...but you are warned, JUST in case. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Oneshots have to have at least 1,000 words, or somewhere around there, at LEAST. And with multichaps, each chapter with around 1,000 words as well. I'm flexible in the category. My main rating is T, because less than such is normally kid stuff, or fluff so fluffy I choke. I can handle fluff, I truly can, but come ON. I can do M, though, too. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
-I'm not big on songfics- beleive me, I love music as much as- or MORE than- the next guy, but the two don't mix well, in my opinion. By songfics, I mean stories with song lyrics in them and all about them, not stories based on songs. There's a difference. I'm freakin' CLUELESS in the Anime section! I can't keep up, the names of the characters confuse me, I can't keep anything straight, and frankly, it freaks me out. Please, nothing in a Disney show category! It's just weird. Disney movies I can do, but not shows. Unless, maybe, MAYBE, it's Kickin' It. MAYBE. If I like you enough, I guess. I can do Nickelodeon shows. They at least have good jokes. Most of the time. I will not do lemon after lemon after lemon. Or a one-shot lemon. If the story has an actual plot to it, but has a lemon or two in it, that's fine. As long as it has a plot, not sex scene after sex scene after sex scene. I will refuse to Beta a story where you annihilate characters beyond recognition! (i.e. Dumbledore is a pedophile, Puck is a love-sick puppy dog) unless it is done purposefully, as a crackfic... |
