Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well, hello there. I've not formally been a betareader before, although I have years of experience betareading a large variety of works by my friends and one story on here; I've checked, examined, and proofread everything from short poetry to a full-length book. That said, I have no idea what a "betareading style" is, so I'll skip to what I expect from any of you who'd actually like my help. All I ask of you is patience and a decent attitude; there's really a slim chance that I'll actually take issue with you, so don't worry! |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm excellent at catching characterization errors and spelling mistakes, and I've been told I'm far above average on most issues of punctuation.I also have a very basic grasp on Russian, German, Italian, and French, if your story has any of those languages in it anywhere (which, knowing the Hetalia fandom, it probably will). I'm also in my fifth year of study in Spanish, and I can keep up with a 305 level course in it as a senior in high school. I'm not fluent by any means, but I'll be much more helping with checking that than anything else. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to abuse commas, and I probably won't notice if you do. Likewise, I'm not as liable to catch a dangling participle, split infinitive, or a preposition at the end of a sentence. That's really all that's come to my attention so far, but I'm sure this will be updated as I learn and improve. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Obviously, I'll do much better work for you if the story you'd like me to beta is based on something I'm familiar with. As of the time I last updated this, those fandoms include Kingdom Hearts (up to, but not including, Birth By Sleep), Naruto, Hetalia, Harry Potter, Hibiki's Magic, Chobits, Wicked (musical, not book), and The Phantom of the Opera (same as Wicked). I'm more than willing to do the research on a series if I like the author or the story, and I'll likewise check anything for grammar and style. If you aren't sure if I'm up to something, just ask! |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I really don't like poetry. That said, I have the most experience with it, so throw it at me anyway, if you'd like. |
