Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi folks! I officially have absolutely no idea how to start this... I just spent like the last ten minutes rewriting this paragraph, but this time, I will force myself not to erase it! Okay, here goes:I suppose I'm gonna offer to be a betareader mainly coz I love this site. I love reading everyone's awesome stories, and I think that everyone has the potential to create masterpieces that everyone can enjoy. Unfortunately, sometimes tiny things like spelling and grammar can hold people back. And that's where I want to step in! So if you've got some amazing story, but are feeling hindered by the spelling and/or grammar, do not hesitate to ask! Um, as a betareading style... I've never tried this before and am still working out how parts of this site works, so if you're happy with improvizing, I'm right here. And in the case of expectations, I don't really have any. No matter how appalling your spelling or whatever might be, if I like your story idea, I will strive my hardest to help! And to be honest, even if I don't like your story idea, I'll probably still try my hardest to help anyway. XD |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
On the description for what to write in this box it says 'Honesty is not boasting'. :D I'm glad it says that, coz I hate writing stuff like this that makes me sound really bigheaded or something. XD I suppose spelling and grammar are my strong points. If something bothers me with how a sentence sounds I'll spend ages staring at it and thinking until it makes sense. It's something I do naturally whilst I'm reading anyway, whatever the subject is, so it's not going much out of my way to help anyone out with that. I do tend to overuse commas and semicolons though. :P |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Ideas. I'm definitely lacking in the ideas department. I'm more than willing to listen to your ideas for fics and offer some help if you're really desperate, but I can't guarantee anything genius. It's something I'm always struggling with when I'm writing too. I'm also very obsessive over things, and the specific things I obsess over tend to change a lot, so whilst sometimes I'll be online for most of the day (or night) for like a fortnight, other times I'll mysteriously vanish for a month or two. So I guess, I'm not particularly reliable... However I do tend to check my email every day, so even if I'm not on this site, I'll notice if you send me a PM yelling at me to get off my butt and do something. :D |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'd say, my only preference is for it to be in a fandom I'm familiar with/up to date with if it's an ongoing series. Only reason is so that I understand the characters and any in-jokes or anything, and that nothing gets spoiled if I decide to watch/read a series in a few years. Apart from that anything's fine. I read pairings, no-pairings, yaoi, yuri... anything. I love AUs though. I love really really well thought out AUs, but I will read anything. I've got no specific genres I prefer or anything, and I'll even read stuff about characters I hate, if it's well-written. :P Or interesting. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Like I said, I'll read anything, but I suppose I should say that actually, I'm not too keen on anything too lemony. I will read them if you want me too, and it's okay if there's parts in a story which are lemony but most of it isn't, but in general, I don't like it. Just to let you know. :) |
