Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love to read stories, and I love to get lost in the world of a story. I read both on my PC and my phone, so I'm very accessible whenever you could need me. My style is simply this-I read through a story entirely to see where it ends up, what the plot is, who the characters are. Once I've read through it (no notes allowed on a first read) I go back through it with a pen and notebook in hand and note anything that seemed out of place, confusing, or simply blew my mind with awesomeness. I take lots of notes, then organize them, and send them off. Since I am a character-driven reader and author, if characters are something you need help with, I can help. I like to see strong character detailing and knowledge as I believe that the believability of a story starts with the believability of the /br / I'm willing to try something new if it interests me, so PM me if you aren't sure and I can let you know if I am interested enough to familiarize myself with a new book, TV show, movie, etc. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spell-checking. I know there are buttons and programs for that, but I know that sometimes they aren't right. I'm also good at catching typos that aren't necessarily spelling errors. Since those little things can really take a reader out of a story, I think it is very important to avoid typos. Another strength I have is character development. If I'm writing a story, the first thing I have down is the characters. With fanfiction, the characters are already there, you just have to understand them. You can also take a character a little out of their usual mode, but there needs to be a reason. If you need help with that reason, I can work with it. Details are something that I cannot escape when I write, sometimes almost to a fault. If you need help with details, I'm the girl for you. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't have as broad a range of knowledge of the many fanfiction areas as others. I focus on TV and fantasy books. I cannot help with a lot of material. It makes my area narrower than most. That can be a plus, but it can also be a minus. I'm also not great at writing crime cases. I enlist help when I am writing those myself. I can try, but I don't think it is one of my strengths. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I watch a lot of TV and movies and I read fantasy and mystery novels mostly. Castle, Bones, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, How I Met Your Mother, Scandal, Game of Thrones, True Blood, The Walking Dead, The Newsroom, and Mad Men, among others, are my favorite TV shows. The movie list would be too long. Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce, Dan Brown, Robert Ludlum, George R.R. Martin, Meg Cabot, Stephanie Meyer are authors with whom I feel very familiar.
